Just wanted to give an update on my wife's condition to you guys(and gals)..
Unfortunately, the results of her suspicious mammogram did indeed turn out to be breast cancer. However- it was a a form called Ductal carcinoma in Situ (DCIS), which when caught in the early stages(it was), is virtually 100% curable. DCIS is when cancer cells are found in a mammary duct, and have not yet formed the ability to move and spread outside these ducts. If left untreated, they can develop this ability to spread and become invasive(very bad).
The cure will most likely mean a masectomy with reconstructive surgery immediately following the procedure. The reconstructive part of it means implants(on both sides to insure symmetry), as well as nipple reconstruction.
I've decided to look at the bright side- breast augmentation that I won't have to pay for!
Seriously, I'm just REALLY glad and relieved that my wife will be around to help raise our kids after all; we were becoming quite worried that this might not end up being the case. We feel fortunate and extremely blessed by God that it was caught early, and as a result is not life-threatening.
Thanks to all who offered a prayer or good thought. I will continue to update her condition after the surgery is over.
