Another fire

Kansas' pregame meal was interrupted Wednesday when a cardboard box containing potato chips caught fire on a food warmer, causing smoke to billow in Allen Fieldhouse.

The Jayhawks had just sit down to eat at 4 p.m. when the smoke broke out. The building was evacuated for about 30 minutes after the Lawrence Fire Department responded to a call. When it reopened, the Jayhawks ate their meal in a veil of smoke.

They eat in an area set up between the locker rooms in a foyer on the west concourse of Allen Fieldhouse. Towels were placed at the thresholds of the locker room doors to prevent smoke from entering that space.

It was the second time in nine days the Jayhawks have responded to a fire alarm. The night before playing at Oklahoma, they evacuated from their hotel and stood in the parking lot for about an hour because a blaze broke out in the laundry room of the Norman Holiday Inn.
