I meant why did they skip BA in the rotation? And I'm not sold on Bautista just yet.

Because he's taken awhile to get used to his new delivery that Guy Hansen switched him to. He hasn't had as much work in spring as the other starters. He's pitched well when he's pitched though. And you will be a believer in Bautista!... eventually at least. He's got the best stuff of anybody on the pitching staff.

It's short for 1/3rd. It's easier to type that than 2 1/3 or 2.3333333333333333333333333333333333333 all the time.

Greinke bruised, KC battered in series-ending loss to Detroit

By BOB DUTTON The Kansas City Star

DETROIT — First things first.

Royals wonderkid Zack Greinke apparently suffered nothing more than a bruise on his right forearm after getting drilled by a line drive that forced him to leave Thursday's game against the Detroit Tigers in the third inning.

As for the game … it was close until the Royals' defense collapsed in a six-run seventh that cemented a 7-3 loss at Comerica Park.

Greinke departed the game in the third inning after being struck near his elbow by a liner off the bat of Carlos Guillen. The ball caromed toward third, which allowed Guillen to reach safely with a one-out single.

“I didn't even see it,” Greinke said. “He hit it pretty good, but that's the first time I've ever been hit hard by one of those ever in my life.”

Greinke tested his arm by making a few practice pitches before exiting as a precaution.

“I felt like a girl coming out of there,” Greinke said, “especially since I still didn't feel any pain later on. Maybe I could have pitched through it.”

The Royals, of course, were taking no chances with their prize prodigy and hustled Greinke off for X-rays. Plans call for him to make his next scheduled start, though he will be re-evaluated today.

“Three inches higher,” general manager Allard Baird said, “and it would have been his elbow, or 7 inches lower and it would have been his wrist. So it could have been a lot worse.”
