According to NFLPA.org...Priest has taken a pay cut.

So much for Priest being selfish.

2002 750,000.00
2003 550,000.00
2004 660,000.00
2005 2,415,000.00
2006 670,000.00
2007 870,000.00
2008 1,070,000.00

FTR Priest's original salaries for 2006-2009 were:

I haven't read this whole thing, but this is just stupid. Who really cares about selfishness here? If he did restructure, then he got paid up front, good for him. That also frees up cap space for the team, good for the team.

What's the frikin problem here?

If this post is true, then this is a thread about nothing.

This is a very true statement. Then again, makes you wonder if it was Priest all alone, or was it the o-line. I mean I can tell a difference between Priest and Mike Cloud, or Priest and Dee Brown. But I could also tell a difference between Mike Cloud and D. Blaylock.

Maybe it's unfair...actually, it is unfair.

But for some reason, prior to 2003, I thought Priest was somehow different.
I felt the same way when he did it on the sidelines, but I also admired the fact that he showed up to camp on time and went all out. Many would have held out even coming off an injury.

It will be interesting to see how people react when LJ says he wants to be paid. Another year like he had last year and he'll have every right to hold out. Priest deserved the money, and at least he didn't hold out like 99% of pro sports athletes that don't play when they want more money. He was a bit harsh about it, but on the other hand he was dealing with Carl Peterson.

It's true. The first set of numbers he gave are just the base salary. The second set takes into account the combined salary, bonuses, LTBE incentives, and amortized bonuses to give you his cap number.

Priest's numbers never changed.

And it couldn't to that effect listed without a new agreement being reached on Monday. Converting the remaining money into a bonus spread over 4 years would put the contract in violation of the Deion Sanders 30% rule being that 2006 would be the last uncapped year.

You're wrong.

I checked the site last week, and the numbers were much higher. I don't remember them offhand, but they have changed since last week.

Players typically don't have a 2.4 million base salary one year, and then a 600,000 the next. Generally, they usually only go up or decrease very slightly.

He signed a big contract back in 2003. The sum of that deal wasn't a total base salary of about 8 million.

That's when I stopped and reconsidered. The Chiefs had just drafted a RB in the first round. That was their bargaining chip. Priest tried to make his bargaining chip fan support. In the end, he wasn't playing any more dirty than the Chiefs were, and it was all about getting something that he deserved.

I don't think he's a good guy. I think he's probably a dick, a lot like Gonzo is. But I don't feel he's been particulary unfair to this organization or it's fans. Whereas tsince the emergence of LJ, some fans have been pretty damn unfair to him.
Chief fans in general have been hard on the RB's and QB's because, lets face it, they've sucked over the years. Until recently.

i said paying him for doing nothing ... like when we paid a player (rich gan non??) 100,000 dollars for restructuring his contract early so we could just cut him later.

we basically paid 100k just to delay a cap hit long enough for us to cut him when it was more convenient.

or

like when we restructure a players contract without them taking a pay cut.

we basically give them their yearly salary up front to lessen the salary cap hit.

The player gets paid immediately for doing nothing.
My point was, why would the Chiefs let him restructure and give him his salary in bonus money if they thought he was going to retire?

I don't think the FO would do something that stupid. If the organization asked for (or agreed to) this, then I have to believe they were smart enough to anticipate him retiring and structured the contract accordingly.

The fact that they did this instead of cutting him leads me to believe that it's beneficial to the Chiefs.
