Green week 5...

espn insider...

* Word out of Kansas City is that it might not be wise to expect QB
Trent
Green to return to the Chiefs' lineup until Week 5 vs. Arizona, as he
continues to recover from a severe concussion suffered in the season
opener.

On the subject of Geathers, congratulations to old friend Ray Anderson, the league's new senior vice president of football operations, on making the
correct call in not fining the Bengals' young end for his
concussion-inducing hit of Trent Green.
One league official told
ESPN.com
that NFL officials spent "an inordinate amount" of time dissecting the
play,
scrutinizing it from every angle, as well they should. The hit stoked a
lot
of emotion -- in part because Green, who was unconscious for 11
minutes, is
one of the NFL's classiest performers, because the Kansas City fans are
loyal and vocal, and because, to be honest, it looked bad.
But when one examines the play frame by frame, as did people from the
officiating department and beyond, it is what it is: Geathers' body
trajectory was impacted by Chiefs wide receiver Eddie Kennison
, and,
unfortunately, his shoulder pads collided with Green's helmet. There
are
doubtless a lot of laws of physics that apply in this case, but here's
a
reality that puts things in perspective: Football isn't a cartoon.
Players
can't stop in midair and freeze-frame themselves. The lick laid on
Green,
while unfortunate, wasn't illegal.
Chiefs president/general manager Carl Peterson did the admirable and
right
thing, too, in questioning the league's judgment. After all, he's
without
his starting quarterback now, for at least a few weeks. But the
decision,
while controversial, was still correct. When Anderson landed a job in
the
Atlanta Falcons' front office four years ago, after a long stint
representing players and coaches, critics suggested that he wasn't
suitable
for the position because he wasn't a "football man." Those same
skeptics
raised similar concerns last month when the NFL appointed Anderson to
his
current league post. But in his first big test, Anderson demonstrated
that
he understands the game a lot better than some of those who reacted in
knee-jerk fashion to the Geathers-Green incident. He was deliberate and
prudent and, most important, with plenty of input from the officiating
department, Anderson got it right.

MY EDIT: Officials need a physics lesson about forces. Kennison blocked him into Green...right.

You know I'm a HUGE football fan and I usually spend too much time watching football. But I'm having a tough time getting through a casual football game without getting pissed off and getting sick to my stomach. I don't know how many ****ing times I gonna see some ****ing flag thrown for a pansey ass foul because "the NFL is changing the rules to protect the WR and the QB". If I HAVE TO HEAR THAT DAMN COMMENT ONE MORE TIME THIS SEASON, I'M PROBABLY GOING TO NEED A NEW TV. What the **** is going on? Did Trent Green and the Chiefs do something to piss off the league? I agree with everyone...if this would have happened to the Manning twins this would have been a travesty. Hell they were saying on the tube last night that you can't hit a QB low and that the "NEW" rule was the Carson Palmer rule. The WR is protected in the middle of the field and you can't hit them in a "vulnerable" position? Un****ing believable! But slide and they can knock your head off. I feel better.

A 190 pound man running, but not in a full out sprint, towards a 300 plus pound man, touches him with his right arm, at an angle (which further weakens the amount of force Geathers could impact into Green as compared to a straight on block), and that block from a high angle, on wet turf (which makes it harder to push off of, and thus achieve leverage with a block) somehow causes the 300 pound man, running full out, to LOWER HIS SHOULDER INTO THE HEAD of the opposing team's quarterback.

No shit. So how about applying that principle to the other 99% of QB hits that DO get flagged and/or fined?

fuck that shit.

Eddie's lucky the league didn't fine him for a block in the back that led to Green's injury. He must be connected.

Karma will get the best of Geathers...you watch. The fatazz will suffer a season ending injury, or maybe even a career-ending injury. You can't beat Karma.

Yup. Happened to Rodney Harrison, too.

Yeah yeah, whatever. Don't let facts get in the way of a sense of cosmic justice and karmic balance. It's all about perception.

Week 5 would be the ideal situation.

No way in hell do I want Trent's first game back to be @ Pittsburgh.

I swear every time I hear what a GREAT non call that cheapshot was on Green-it pisses me off. The NFL is rigged-and this is just another example. If the exact circumstances happened to Palmer-not only would it have been a flag-someone would be looking at a suspension of at least 3 games.
