What role in KC could Priest possibly play?

Lamar said he's hoping this guy could consider returning in 2007.

A guy who's lead the AFC in rushing yardage a time or two, a guy who spearheaded the league's most productive offense for five years, a guy who broke the record for rushing touchdowns in a year...

What role could a guy like this possibly fit into on a team that has absolutely everything it needs from LJ?

Replace Bennett, and get 10 runs a game, max? Would Priest settle for that?

Use his superior blocking ability and sure-handedness at fullback, paving the way for LJ down the middle? Would Priest settle for that?

No and no. Priest, for all his heart, understands that he is (was?) a marquee runner in the NFL. And all evidence of Priest's personality indicates that he wants to be the alpha dog, and vaporizes when that's not the case.

Do we, therefore, have trade bait? Or can we fit Priest into a role that (a.) the Chiefs need his skills for, and (b.) Priest would be satisfied with?

trading him would be a big cap hit.

we'll wait until after June 1 of next year, then release him, unless a settlement comes first.

BIG IF.... Doctor's clear him by spring, he will TRY and come back.

I don't think it will be pretty depending on how in shape he is.

then he hangs 'em up by June cut.

Year off, he returns some where as spell back ala Marshall Faulk.

1. Priest Holmes will not play fullback. Guy had a compression injury to his spine, it's goaline and backup duty from here on out for the priest, unless he gets traded.

2. Priest Holmes does have some trade value. Fourth round pick, maybe...I am thinking a five or a six. A Shrewd move would be to carry priest through t.c. make him play a bunch in the preseason, and first game or two of the regular season, and then trade him before the deadline. That way he could see a fourth, or third or whatever depending on his performance. L.J. gets rested @ the beginning of the season, priest starts for a new team, everyone wins.
So don't tell me if he has 300 yds rushing in two games @ the beginning of the year, cleveland, or houston isn't going to pop off a decent pick to get some of that. He is still capable of that.

3. Priest would be an excellent backup for the chiefs next year. Bennett has been hurt half of the season, and even though he has some speed, he don't know the offense, and isn't like priest in the passing game or around the goalline. Bennet should have a decent year, and then will hit the road if Priest comes back, bank on it. If we keep bennett Till June 1st, Priest will probably be traded, if he hasn't already. My feeling is he won't quit, because of how he went out last year.

I know the guy who cuts the hair of Trent Green's wife's quilting bee partner. He says we're trading Larry Johnson and Priest Holmes to Washington for Clinton Portis, that belt and 4 first round draft picks in 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2022.

(Which, if you follow the Mayan calendar, REALLY sucks)

if my friends were around, you could ask them. As soon as we drafted LJ, I wanted to trade Priest. He had so much stock to his name and we could have easily gotten one or two solid defenders with him and a draft pick..but instead we kept him and now, we never hear his name. Unless he's hurt and TRYING to come back.

What is with all of the Priest Holmes threads the past couple of days? Does anyone seriously believe he will play another down in the NFL (or any league for that matter)?

If he were to do so it would have happened this year. It hasn't, it won't, it's over, he's finished playing.

PH is one play away from being valuable.

In fact, I'd say that PH is the main reason this board exploded to it's current membership.

Just because Americans are engulfed in a throwaway society doen't mean that PH doesn't have value to this team.
