Dolphins notebook: Forget Green, consider Carr, harness Hakim

http://www.realfootball365.com/nfl/a...een260307.html

Quote:
Is it me, or are the Kansas City Chiefs flat-out insane?

According to published reports, those zany Chiefs have asked the Miami Dolphins to contribute a second-round draft pick as well as another undisclosed selection as compensation for the services of Trent Green.

Granted, maybe Kansas City is banking on the Dolphins' rather illustrious history of overcompensating trades like the one that sent a second-rounder to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for NFL lackey A.J. Feeley or the deal that gave two consecutive first-round picks to the New Orleans Saints for Ricky Williams. Heck, even last year's second-round swap for injured quarterback Daunte Culpepper can be construed as a bit of a reach for the organization.

Fortunately for Dolphins fans, there's a new regime in town, and it appears to value draft picks much more than any of its predecessors.

Giving up two picks, including a second-rounder, for a 36-year-old veteran QB with concussion issues would be a huge mistake, one that new head coach Cam Cameron is unlikely to make regardless of his shared history with Trent Green.

Besides, there's a younger and more mobile option available in the free-agent market by the name of David Carr. Sure, Carr is nowhere near as established as his older counterpart, but the 27-year-old has youth and mobility on his side -- two virtues that will pay off well on a Dolphins offense that has multiple holes along its line.

If the Dolphins really want Green in Miami, perhaps all they'll have to do is wait. The Chiefs will be hard-pressed to find a trade partner, especially one that will meet their outlandish demands, and if they can't find one in the next couple of months expect to see Green released during the NFL's second free agency period in June.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Seems to me that if all we can get is a one of the last picks in the draft, then it doesn't really matter if we get compensation.

I can't believe how two illegal hits can pretty much "ruin" the career of one of the most decent and best qb's in the last five years.

Funny how an injured Al Wilson can supposedly garner high draft picks, but Green can't....

There is no doubt in my mind that he will continue to succeed wherever he ends up....

Carl probably thinks the same, didn't he say FU to AFCW teams who might be eyeing Green?

I have read this several different times
Why would they just cut him?
The money is the same-have him compete

I would rather have some compensation versus us just letting him go.

Green's interest will go up after draft as June approaches....

I'd just be clip board boy and settle for 3rd string $5-700K/yr and bonus money if I had to play....

Call it a day /career stay with family in KC help Croyle get ready.

No shit. People who read that kind of stuff and take it literally have to be about half-reeruned.

Me, I'd tell the Dolphins to go ahead and sign Carr and stop wasting my time with garbage offers.
