Draft a QB?

I know it's popular opinion that the Chiefs should take an O lineman with their first round draft choice but I looked up all the winning superbowl quarterbacks at http://www.drafthistory.com/articles/article42.html and found that of the 41 winning teams 28 of them started a quarterback that they drafted. That's 68%. This site only goes through 2004 but the winners since then have been Brady, Roethlisberger and Manning. All were drafted by the teams they played for in the superbowl.
I know that some quarterbacks picked in the first round have been busts (and given Carl's draft history I am confident he could screw this up) but should the Chiefs take a QB with their first pick and build the offense around him? Croyle seems injury prone which was his knock coming out of college and it's mho that lineman can be had after the first pick and in free agency.
Food for thought.
Opinions?

He's more of a 2nd round guy, I have no doubt he'll be on the board at the Chiefs 2nd pick.

We prob shouldnt draft another QB untill we can bring in a coach with the skills needed to build an organization around a young QB.I dont believe Croyle is the answer we are looking for.

Oddly of all of the top AFC teams right now their LT's were 2nd round picks.
IMO our problem is more than the LT position. Our entire line needs to be upgraded.

So my question is:What about the other o-line postions on winning SB teams? Where were they drafted? Were they still with that team come SB time?

Only 10 of the 41 got their LT from some other team.
Holy hell you were bored today.

I agree. Outside of Waters the only starter that will probably be here next year is McIntosh and he will be moved to RT.
The only problem I have with taking an OT in the first round is that I don't think we have a viable QB. Huard's not the answer and Croyle has a gun but we don't know if he can stay healthy. A good QB can't help much is he's always hurt.

LOL, yeah, I was. I didn't intend to look at all 41 superbowls when I started checking, but Wikipedia made it relatively easy by listing the starting lineups for every superbowl.

Well, I'm not opposed to taking a QB early but I don't think it is the absolute best plan. I would give Croyle one more year to convince me he can play in this league. If he does- great! If he doesn't- well, we're probably going to suck next year, anyway, and we can take a QB early in 2009.

I researched it the way I did because that parallels what the thread starter did. Neither that method nor the method you recommend here tell us much about who we should draft though.

I don't have time to go back and figure out which of the individual players played in multiple superbowls, but out of 28 individual LTs who have won superbowls here is the breakdown:

Code:
1st Round: 8
2nd Round: 7
3rd Round: 4
4th Round: 2
5th Round: 1
8th Round: 1
11th Round: 1
Undrafted: 4
