Girl not allowed to play with boys
You play ball like a girl.
That used to be an insult. In Beaverton, Oregon, it's becoming more like a fantasy. Jaime Nared, a 12-year-old girl who stands 6-foot-1, has been told she can no longer play on the boys team of which she has been a member since the second grade, according to a report on the Web site of The Oregonian. Curiously, the timing of her ban came in the wake of a 30-point effort against an all-boys team. more... What grade is a 12 year old in? She's been playing in the league since the second grade. If there was a rule against a girl playing in the league - it should have been brought up then. Maybe some of the parents should teach their sons how to play ball instead of being a whiny biatch. As a side note.... 6'1" at 12 years old... geesh. Last edited by Cntrygal; 05-27-2008 at 08:27 PM.. Reason: fixed link! |

League or no league, it's still discrimination. If those boys are afraid of losing to the big gal, well then that's on them. Obviously they need to either toughen up, or walk the **** away.

There were girls wrestling back when I was in high school. I remember some girl from another team came and wrestled in a Varsity tournament against us, and the guy from our school set a record for quickest pin. That was in '93.
I went up to my high school this past winter, and his record still stands. I have no problem with girls playing any boys sport, so long as the rules are the same for them. |

I don't buy that she's scoring all those points because they treat her different. That could account for the first, say 5-10 points. After that the girl thing goes right out the window and anybody with stones would start to guard her, probably harder than usual, to stop being embarrassed.
The real issue here is that the boys can't stop her from putting up 30 points. If that's true, she could put up 60 in a girl's game, and it wouldn't be any fun for her. Why shouldn't she be able to play against the best competition available? |

I am not arguing against anything else, just pointing out this does not fall under Title IX because there is equal opportunity for her to play the sport and it seems to be league ball which does not fall under Title IX also.. As for discrimination, yeah there seems to be some.. Some people are not comfortable playing with girls.. The only thing I can think of is they are weird or afraid they will hurt one, or maybe just sexist.. But, they are sandy gina's for being afraid of their boys losing to a girl.. Especially since the girl it seems has been playing against the same competition for years.. I am guessing she had a growth spurt this past year which turned her into a powerhouse and some teams tried to bust out a overlooked rule to get her gone so they could win.. My volleyball team depending on the league is coed or all guys.. A couple of our better players will notch it down when playing girls.. Me I do not care, if I get the chance to put if off your face I will.. Especially if you are talking shit.. But a couple of our guys will not spike on girls, it makes it a lot harder to win when you don't play to your ability.. |

On this, we had Betty Lennox at our school when I was there.. She was WNBA rookie of the year and MVP, they had an awesome girls team with her.. It did not stop the JV boys from putting a whooping on her team.. -------------------------------- Sidenote.. This past year in tennis they finally gave womens tennis equal money for winning the trophies.. I am all for fairness, but shouldn't they have to win 3 out of 5 like the guys to get the equal money??? If I were the guys I would be bitching to play less sets and win 2 out 3.. It would cut back on injuries.. and be fair.. The guys should get more money if they are playing more sets in the event.. They have to play 33% more sets just to get equal pay on winning?? |

Sorry about the screwed up link!
The way I read it... I didn't think that this was a school team - but some kind of league thing - that she's been playing in for years...... After all the coach says, "I never saw the rule," said Abraham, who has coached basketball for 32 years. "If I'd known about it, I wouldn't have put any of my teams in the league. Besides, she's been playing on this team since second grade, and she plays on our team when we travel around the region. There's never been any problem in any event, not one word of complaint." Personally, I think she should be allowed to play and the parents should ![]() If this was a school program and there was a boys and a girls team.... and there was a rule in place saying no mixing of genders - "then boys play with boys and girls play with girls". ![]() |
