Apparently the reason behind this move is lost on this thread:

There is an off-day in the schedule coming up on what would be Davies' next start. They're going to use that to skip over the #5 slot for ONE time through the rotation.

Fulchino was brought up because Hilman wanted a bullpen arm in the interim, seeing as Mayhay isn't quite back up to full speed yet.

This move isn't a referendum on Davies or anything.

he's still very young and still learning to pitch...yeah he has been bad but he's nowhere near Tomko status...he has had decent starts. I think he won' amount much more than a 4.50 era starter/3-4.00 reliever
