Sammie Lee Hill
Sammie Lee Hill Is Getting Around
Posted by Mike Florio on March 25, 2009, 4:10 p.m. Little-known Sammie Lee Hill, a defensive tackle from Stillman College, quietly is getting noticed as the draft approaches. A league source tells us that Hill, who some think could be picked as high as round two, has scheduled visits with the Jets, Eagles, Buccaneers, Chargers, and Steelers. He also has met with the Patriots, Rams, and Chiefs. At 6′4″ and 329 pounds, Hill has the size to play tackle in either the 4-3 or the 3-4 defensive alignments. http://www.profootballtalk.com/category/rumor-mill/ Walter's Football had this info on Sammie Sammie Lee Hill, Stillman Height: 6-4. Weight: 329. Projected 40 Time: 5.23. Combine 40 Time: 5.11. Benchx225: 27. Vertical: . Projected Round (2009): 3-4. 2/24/09: Sammie Lee Hill ran very well for his frame. Considering how rare quality nose tackles are, he definitely increased his stock. 2007: Sammie Lee Hill had 14 TFL and 4.5 sacks as a junior. |

Another case where the move to a 3-4 en masse causes guys to get overvalued. There is no way this guy is worth a second rounder.

Chiefs Scout Little Known DE/DT Sammie Lee Hill by primetime 07 on Mar 25, 2009 3:36 PM CDT 9 comments The Kansas City Chiefs met with Sammie Lee Hill, a little known defensive player from Stillman College in the Southern Conference according to profootballtalk.com. Who? Hill played defensive end for Stillman and apparently is one of the most versatile (thanks, Kris Wilson) players his coaches have seen. I know what you're thinking...Stillman isn't exactly an NFL factory like the other school in Alabama. But check out these numbers from the NFL Combine and tell me he doesn't catch your eye like he did the scouts who originally noticed while scouting another player last season. 5.17 40 yard dash 27 reps in the bench press 28'' vertical leap 9'1" broad jump 7.89 seconds in the 3 cone drill They're not the best numbers at the Combine but still impressive when you consider the majority of his counterparts were playing on national television on Saturdays. His 6'4" 329 pound build makes him a very intriguing prospect for the Chiefs. 3-4 Nose Tackle or Defensive End Both, apparently. He's certainly got the size to play the middle in the 3-4. The Stillman coaches placed him at defensive end so they could shut down half the field in the run game. Versatility There's that word that Scott Pioli loves. Mile High Report talks about his athleticism: "Why wouldn’t he be? Mostly, because he could have been the next Shaq O’Neal. He had serious skills as a basketball player. And for all his size, Sammie Lee can jump. He can also play linebacker and tight end. He even played kicker. Oh, yes, and a little DT." The buzz word around this polite young man (interview here) has been his versatility and his athleticism. But it's his character and selflessness that put him on the national scene last summer. Just remember, Tony Gonzalez isn't the only one who can save someone: "Just one night on our way home, we were seeing a burning house on fire. My teammate told me to turn around, because someone might need help and, sure enough, there was a lady outside saying that her father needs help. All we could do was put our hands over our faces and hope that we didn’t get hurt. We looked up, and, well, it was a blessing that we could grab him and protect ourselves so we all were safe." He has other visits scheduled with Jets, Eagles, Bucs, Chargers and Steelers. He's already met with the Rams and,

Completely agree that big NTs are in demand by several 3-4 teams, so teams will take a gamble and probably draft them higher than they should.
Projected draft rounds for these defensive tackles B.J. Raji, 6'1", 337 lbs, Boston College - Top ten pick. Ron Brace, 6'3", 330 lbs, Boston College - round 2 pick. Chris Baker, 6'2", 326 lbs, Hampton - round 2 - 3. Sammie Lee Hill, 6'4", 329 lbs, Stillman - round 3 - 4. Terrance Knightly, 6'3", 321 lbs, Temple - round 4 -5. Antonio Dixon, 6'3", 328 lbs, Miami - round 7. |
