Yep, I thought it was kind of boring too. Not boring in the sense that I thought the 2 hours dragged on, but I guess I expected more. Where was the explosion, helicopter crash, or gunman shooting up the ER?

I mean, I know they were going for the "life goes on" theme to end it, but they've done such big stunts in the past that it was a little underwhelming.

As this show has wound down, I've really come to appreciate how centered on an actual 'life' ER has come to be over the years. It started with the maturation of Carter, and it stepped up a notch withthe chronic ****up Archie growing into his role as resident, then Neela becoming a premiere surgeon, and smaller moments with Green and Hathaway as an older, loving, long married couple out in Seattle, Benson's deaf son now a teen, Green's daughter coming in as an intern at the end. Even Frank fretting about the perfect sendoff for Neela, feeling bad after all these years for the bigoted things he said to her when she first arrived.

So many shows have a shelf life as the cute kid becomes an awkward teen, or 'high schoolers' start sporting gray hair, and so many long running shows [CSI, L&O] depend on formula while the players are interchangeable. Outside of The Waltons one is at a loss for another show that deals with people maturing longterm and becoming organically something other that what they started out as. I still see so many of those actors from ER and think of them as Pratt or Dr. Green, or Neela, or even Abby, rather than their real identity, and they feel like people you actually know, rather than players presenting a dramatic story.
