Matt Cassel on 810 WHB tomorrow

Matt Cassel will be on BTL tomorrow on 810 WHB around 3:30. According to KK, he will open up the phone lines and Cassel will answer questions from some of the listners. Sounds cool, can't wait!

EDIT: KK said at the beginning of the show that he may not be on! He's obviously not on so I guess they were not able to get him.

I agree, but that can also be attributed a little bit to the spread. The spread makes it easier for LBs, in particular, to fly into the backfield.

The spread works fine if you have a mobile QB like Cassel or Thigpen, who can recognize the blitz from a mile away and have a head start in reacting to the blitz. But that might be why you see him seeing a constant pass rush in the shotgun.

But I do agree with you that the Pats' offensive line is overrated. Just like the Saints. Brady and Brees are two of the best at making lightning quick reads and getting rid of the ball so fast, a pass rush doesn't have time to get to the QB.

The Pats line over the years have looked better than they actually are because of Tom Brady's pocket presense, and his uncanny ability to slide away from pressure.

But they weren't as bad as they appeared last because Cassel did take too long on his reads and held onto the ball too long.

That improved as the year progressed, but he still has plenty of room for improvement.

At the beginning of the season, Neal (the right guard and probably the team's best run blocking O-lineman) was on the PUP because of the injury suffered in the Super Bowl. Without him, the line really struggled, because the backups stunk out the joint. It was only when Neal came back that the line got things back together. That, coupled with Cassel's learning curve, made an enormous difference in the line play, both in pass protection and in run blocking. Neal's return also helped Cassel to settle into the quarterback position and helped him become a much better player. He really only had one bad game after Neal returned, and that was the Pittsburgh game where the wheels just came off the train for the entire team after Moss dropped a pass that would have been a TD for a 14-3 Patriots lead.

Oh Doooooooooooooooochey...

Sounds like your boy was really 'Rockin' In The Free World today:

In the seven-on-seven passing drill, the football was on the ground more than it was in receivers hands. CBs Maurice Leggett and Ricardo Colclough both had interceptions. It was the second time on the day that Leggett had picked off QB Matt Cassel. There were several other near interceptions, a handful of dropped passes and what seemed like plenty of mental mistakes from the offense.

Things got worse in the teamwork portion of the practice. The Chiefs ran 12 plays and only three gained more than a few yards. There were two near interceptions by the defense, which twice snuffed out screen passes behind the line of scrimmage. The last play of teamwork and the practice ended with a shotgun snap from C Rudy Niswanger sailing over the head of Cassel.
