Todays Kansas City Groupon: Up to 58% Off Ticket to KU Football Game

http://www.groupon.com/deals/univers...s-ku-athletics

Football and academia were forever intertwined when Shakespeare wrote, “Shall I compare thee to a middle linebacker?” See the poetic beauty of a quarterback being sacked on a pivotal 4th and two with today’s Groupon, which gets you a ticket to a Kansas University football game at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence. Tickets will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis for the Tier 2 section of the stadium. Choose one of the following options:

For $25, you get one ticket to the KU vs. New Mexico State game on September 25 at 6 p.m. (a $60 value).

For $35, you get one ticket to the KU vs. Colorado game on November 6, time TBD (an $80 value).

Experience a Rock Chalk Saturday as the Kansas Jayhawks football squad enjoys its first season under new head coach Turner Gill. Stars on this year's roster include playmaking freshman quarterback Jordan Webb and speedy running back James Sims, who led the team to a major upset over the 15th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on September 11. Your ticket will get you a supreme view of the field as the Jayhawks take on the New Mexico State Aggies or butt heads with Big 12 rivals Colorado. When the Jayhawks are safely ahead, sing along to the ghostly chant of “Rock Chalk Jayhawk,” which awakens the fire-breathing jayhawk-monster from its slumber so that it may eat the opposing mascot.

A college-football Saturday in Lawrence extends past the usual football game, as football fanciers gather on Campanile Hill to tailgate, socialize about the upcoming game, or trade recipes for beer-battered lemon-meringue pie. Spend a Saturday away from the stress of tending to a wheat, pumpernickel, or rye farm and celebrate the pure power of college football with today's Groupon.

Obviously, because of Mizzou's long tradition of selling out sporting events.

I'm a 'Cat myself, so I am impartial to the MU/KU spats.

But I think that there is a clear difference between "Not selling out a sporting event" and "Giving away tickets to a sporting event"

There's also a difference between giving away tickets to a sporting events and selling tickets to a sporting event at a discounted price.... and I don't see how it's better to not make any money on seats that aren't going to be bought at face value.

Would you really pay $80/ticket to see KSU vs Colorado?

Some fan bases actually like football even when the team isn't winning.

The MNF game was worth it, but another $100 two weeks later is a bit much (still thinking about it though )... and it's the same for KU football or basketball or whatever, when you consider it's free on tv & other entertainment (that's not on tv) is a better value.

...but I know that's not a very true fan point of view.
