Good symbolism for people everywhere. A pedestrian cannot just stay in the middle of the road like a statue and expect all of the vehicles to casually creep around him. It's dangerous for everyone involved.

Practically, it's a good idea, too. City maintenance crews all over the country are stereotyped as pretty slow to respond...working for the city, the driver probably knew that stereotype to be true. Saved the residents a lot of risk and frustration.

It's a ridiculous injustice the driver lost his job. I'm not surprised though. In the last year the city paid to settle a civil suit where a kid got shot as he was wrestling with an officer responding to a burglary call. I thought he maybe got in trouble because of damage caused to the bus, or disregarding the potential for damage and possible injury to passenger if there was more than snow to that snowman. I agree calling it a "hit and run" is pretty stupid.

A snowman is hit and run? How is that really any different than hitting a clump of snow from a snowplow, or a box that blows into the road.

Yes, he obviously went out of his way to hit it...but the people who made it are lucky it didn't cause an accident. It also seems like there was a similar video last year, I'm thinking at one of the Ivy league schools where a bus hit a snowman in the middle of the road.
