Phone comparison questions
My Blackberry is quitting
![]() I am looking at an iPhone or HTC Thunderbolt. I don't really know which to choose. I've looked through the app stores of both Droid and Apple, and they have comparable apps for what I would be looking for. I also read JOhn's thread here. A few specific questions I have
My primary needs are durability, battery life, and signal strength (I live in the ****ing boonies). Has anything changed since JOhn's thread? Is there anything else I should consider other than the typical "APPLE ROCKS"/"**** APPLE" arguments? TIA. |

When you charge normal, then unplug charger. Turn phone off plug in charger and charge till charged. Unplug charger and turn on phone. Charge again until charged. Repeat a few times.

Charging habits make a big difference in overall battery life too, regardless of which phone. With smartphones with LiIon batteries like the iPhone and Thunderbolt, it's best not to leave them on the charger overnight when the phone is on. Despite the charger having a current interrupt device that stops charging when the battery is full, the parasitic load of charging a battery overnight while the phone is on is very stressful for the battery and will kill long term battery life. iPhone does not have a user accessible battery, and costs over $80 to replace through Apple. You can get a kit and do it yourself for much much cheaper, but it's not very easy. Android phones are easily replaceable and can be had for relatively cheap. You can get 3rd party Android batteries with slightly higher capacities too.

I have a buddy running Cyanogen mod 7 on his Droid 1 who just got 4 days battery life. I never carry my charging cable with me. Don't need it. Running a custom ROM helps.

I have the iphone 4. I also have a mac. I use the shit out of itunes so syncing my phone to my music is always a breeze and it also updates my contacts to my computer so I don't ever lose my contact #'s and it adds new ones every sync if I added them to my phone. I can use it as a remote to my macbook, watch movies through my in dash dvd player in my car, great 5.0mp camera/HD movie quality. Battery life is awesome at 300 hours standby time ; 10 hours internet time ; 7 hours talk time spread all out my iphone 4 can hold a charge for a week before I need to charge it. Bluetooth and wi-fi both on does drain it quickly.

My Droid1 wont allow that. Once its charged, thats it. If I fully charge it, then shut it off to charge, it powers back on.

If battery life is a concern, with android you should make use of one of those apps to clear other resident apps occasionally. I've also heard that if you are jail broken and using unauthorized apps, the memory leaks or bandwidth sucking can not only lower battery life but run up your data usage. I think Apple/Google test the marketplace apps for this but the unauthorized ones can cause issues like these.

But seriously, just stick to that charging habit as much as you can, and you will indeed see a difference in overall battery life. What works for me is plugging the phone in every morning when I wake up, instead of when I go to bed. Right after I hit the snooze on my alarm, plug in the phone. Sometimes I have to sit my phone on top of the alarm clock... ![]() Whatever phone you get, make a post in the Media Center, and educated folks here will tell you exactly how to fine tune that specific model. That's how we roll yo.
