Dessert Warfare: Round 3, Match 2

This is an amazing set of matchups. Purely randomly, each matchup is between items that have some relation to each other, cousins in the great family tree of desserts. I'll look forward to seeing how these turn out.

Chocolate Cake (0 Losses) vs. Chocolate cream pie (0 Losses)

I love both of these. The pie gets points because of scarcity, because chocolate cake is much more common. However, in the end, I can nurse a chocolate cake piece for 30 minutes whereas I'll wolf the pie down too quickly. I'll vote cake.

Red velvet cake (1 Loss) vs. Angel Food Cake (1 Loss)

Two types of cake that I never really crave. I like angel food and it has a distinct flavor. Red velvet is more of a classic cake, but without the stronger flavor of other cakes like chocolate and lemon. I would probably go red velvet by a nose.

Raspberry gelato (1 Loss) vs. Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream (0 Losses)

Another tough matchup. Homemade vanilla has a great texture and flavor, but I like citrus flavoring a lot. The raspberry has more zing. It could vary by day, but today I feel like zing. Raspberry it is.

White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Cheesecake (1 Loss) vs. Turtle Cheesecake (0 Losses)

Both sound good, but few flavors complement each other like chocolate and raspberry. I have to go with the WCRT.

Layer Bars (Cashews, Chocolate Chips, Coconut over Cheesecake in Graham Cracker Crust) (0 Losses) vs. Brownie with nuts (0 Losses)

I like brownies, but less so with nuts. Layer bars, on the other hand, rock. They're one of the few desserts that works better with nuts, and when you add coconut and chocolate chips and graham cracker crust to cheesecake, it's worth singing about. Layer bars get the win.

As long as the Raspberry crap is eliminated, I'm happy.

Chocolate cream pie - I might have voted for devil's food cake, but I'll take the pie over plain old chocolate cake.

Red velvet cake - I'll take the more decadent version of cake here.

Homemade vanilla ice cream - not a fan of gelato, but homemade ice cream is good enough to win against much stronger competition.

Turtle cheesecake - I've never tasted either of these and they both sound good. I'll take the caramel over the rasberry, I guess.

Layers bars - Two good choices, but I'll go with the one that has coconut in it.

The angel food cake goes to heaven, raspberry gelato sees the white light, and white chocolate raspberry truffle cheesecake passes into Valhalla.

Chocolate cake and brownie with nuts shrug off uppercuts to the jaw.
