Chiefs So does this firing make drafting a franchise QB top priority? - Page 5

So, now that Haley is gone, and assuming that Haley not playing Stanzi wasn't just a big F.U. to Pioli by Haley and that Stanzi doesn't go all Matt Moore on us the final three weeks if he plays, does drafting a franchise QB become the top priority going into next season?

The thinking being that Pioli has probably one more shot to prove himself. He ought to know by now that going into next year with Matt Cassel again is likely not going to leave him with much breathing room. But if he goes QB, he energizes the fan base, buys Cassel another year to allow for the grooming of said QB, and buys himself another year for development of said QB. Then, if he hits, he's just made his job a lot easier. If he misses, well, he's likely out after another couple of mediocre years anyway.

If Pioli has learned anything by looking around the league, and looking at what his buddy Dimitrioff did in Atlanta, it is that you can have whatever philosophy it takes to build a team, but if you don't have that QB, your legacy as a GM will be one of a failure. So if you are ever going to take that chance, now is it. Hell, every team in this division is starting a QB who was drafted in round 1 except the Chiefs.

Is that crazy thinking?

I see what you meant now. It still doesn't prove that Clark is actually making decisions. He wants to win, whether for money or joy, but it doesn't say to me that he is telling Pioli what to do in any way.

I'm a firm beleiver that the Chiefs will make a splash in hiring a coach and drafting a quarterback this offseason. Possibly a Heisman winner?

Not always. I think the Cubs made a ton of money through their history. Clark and Lamar made a ton of money having the Chiefs well below the cap. If Clark wants to win, he needs to put his money down.

Again, we went the draft way which means money isn't gonna be spent at a high rate. Guys are now getting extended. Where do you want his money to be put down on?

As long as they pay Bowe, Carr, and get a real QB I don't think you can really get on Clark for the spending. I don't think he is telling Pioli not to sign guys.
