David DeCastro struggling in camp

Quote:
http://espn.go.com/blog/afcnorth/pos...ing-physically

Perhaps the biggest disappointment of Steelers training camp has been the struggles of first-round pick David DeCastro.

Considered the best guard prospect to come out of college in a decade, DeCastro has failed to beat out Ramon Foster, who went undrafted three years ago, for the starting right guard spot.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger asked DeCastro whether he was having more difficulty with the mental or physical part of the game. "He said, ‘The mental part I got. The physical is a lot tougher. These guys are really good,'" Roethlisberger told the Beaver County Times.

DeCastro still might end up starting at right guard in Thursday's preseason opener at Philadelphia because left guard Willie Colon is dealing with an ankle injury. That would move Foster from right to left guard, opening the right guard spot for DeCastro.

Foster made it clear that he isn't conceding the starting job to DeCastro.

"You don't want to just passively give away your starting role," Foster told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "This is a world championship team, you want to be a guy starting on that team. We're both going to get better no matter who wins the job. We'll just handle that at the end of camp. Is there a sense of urgency? Definitely. I think it's there for Dave, too."
I was one of the people who wanted this guy. Despite all the arguments - you don't draft a guard that high; he played against inferior competition; you can get value (Jeff Allen) later, I argued we needed to take this guy.

I was wrong. You were right.

Meanwhile, Jeff Allen is pushing for starting time, held back only by a preference for veterans. Pioli's patience FTW.

Easy to be good all the time with a franchise QB. Credit to them for trying.
The Steelers kill the draft on both sides of the ball.

I know. And they are about as picture perfect of a franchise as you could imagine but think about this..

For every Steeler fan that will point out Troy Polamalu, I'd say 2nd rounder Brandon Flowers. What's my point? Is that most teams have their hits & misses. Not arguing that the Steelers probably hit more often than most teams. That helps make them good.

But it also doesn't hurt that they have a top 6 QB leading them. I mean we all remember what that team was like of recent before Big Ben got there right? Very 90s Chiefs like.

Just my opinion.

And we're right most of the time

If you want to talk about fans of a team who crow about their unproven talent, look no further than Raider fans. Good God, at least Chiefs fans are realistic about their shit QB. You actually think the guy you have is legitimately good.

Awesome, you managed to tie a team who lost 3 of their top 10 players to ACL injuries , then lost their QB for 7 weeks to another injury...

Is that your plan? To pray for injuries so your team can compete?

They have their QB in place. If you succeed at your top ten QB pick, it makes it much easier.

Teams like the Steelers and Ravens can continuously kill the draft, because they will not be drafting for need. Just hang back, draft the best player available, the best athlete, the best value.

Simple? yes.

Easy? No.

The Chiefs will never be relevant like the Raiders and their illustrious 3rd place finish in the division last year.

Oh to one day finish 3rd in the AFC West! Sometimes I lie awake at night DREAMING of finishing 3rd in the division!

We lost our QB, RB, and several other players. It happens. I love when you guys bring up the past because you know what I could bring up that you guys cannot top.

A period of 2 decades more pitiful and miserable than the Chiefs in the 70s and the 80s?

Who has more playoff wins in the 90's and 2000's KC or Oakland? I mean those were some miserable times for us. I didn't realize KC's stopped because I must of missed the playoff success that they had.
