Chiefs vs. Bills Discussion Thread

It's never too early to start talking about the game. Enjoy!!

BTW, these "official" threads have really boiled down to a template:
1.) The word "official" must be in all caps.
2.) The word "thread" must be at the end of the title.
3.) There MUST be four ****'s at both ends of the thread title.
4.) Discussion of the topic, or any version of the topic, or any hint of the topic, in any other thread will NOT be tolerated or you will be told to "shoot yourself in the face", "die in an aids fire", "drink anti-freeze" or even worse...... you could be given negative rep!!!

Man, we are a funny bunch here at ChiefsPlanet!

I've come to the conclusion that Wendler isn't actually a chiefs fan. He doesn't want them to succeed or he wouldn't be able to troll as effectively on the internets.

Dude, I was a HUGE fan of this regime early in 2009 and 2010.

Since then they have been a huge bag of fail and I'm fed up.

You'll see me stroking off the next regime hard.

With Tamba back we should be able to get more pressure so Fitzpatrick might be throwing some bad passes. Maybe Tambe can even force a fumble or 2. Which would be nice for the offense to get some extra possessions.

There are a million topics to talk about throughout the week. Having one gigantic megathread the whole week long that you have to sort through would suck imo.

A friend asked me this week to predict the outcome of this game. Having been a lifetime Chief fanatic and feeling completely estranged in this new regime and longing for the days of Martyball, I countered his request with more of a "Things that must happen for us to win" type of prediction, or shall we say a projection.

With that said, here are the "predictions" I gave to my friend, for us to win.

For us to Win:
1. Dexter McCluster must have a career day. We're talking 74 bubble screens, 3 baby slants, and a few carries from the backfield. It isn't so much that he's explosive or that he's extremely talented, he just happens to be an impossible matchup in this offense, for the opposing defense. You can't cover him with your top corners, Bowe or Baldwin will get away from a Nickel Corner all day and create huge physical mismatches with the Bills. You can't cover him with a Defense End or Linebacker, he's too fast and he'll be moving across the formation so much you'll be giving up a passing lane to cover him. You can't put a safety on him or you'll lose your blanket and give 1 on 1 to Bowe or Baldwin. If our defense plays well enough to keep the ball in the hands of our offense, I literally see this kid with 5-6 catches for 50ish yards on his downside, with his upside being in the area of 9-10 catches and 80-90 yards.

2. Despite Tamba being back, and being the beast that he is, Justin Houston is going to have to have a giant game on Sunday. He's going to have to come up huge in run support to keep Spiller in check in the first half (Spiller will tire towards the end of the game, he'll be used that much), and he's going to have to get to Fitz because he will be seeing quite a few 1 on 1 matchups this week with the way the bills have ran their offense, and schemed against us in the past. Tamba will likely get his bone like the good trench pup he is, but I really see the Bills making him non existent in the 2nd half of this game if the score is close, meaning Houston will need to step his game up into another gear.

3. DJ will have to keep this defense together. The formations we "should" be seeing from my recent memory of scheming against us from recent years against the bills suggests we're going to see a varying mix of larger formations (Double TE sets, etc) with the intermixing of some very widespread 3 and 4 receiver sets. He's one of the best coverage linebackers in the business, and he's going to have to play to that standard this week.

4. Defensive Big Men- Gotta dig dip and get those lanes filled this week. Tamba and Houston need to get every opportunity for 1 on 1 without interference that they can this week, sans scheming, and we will need to get into the backfield early and often to disrupt spiller and get him going East/West. Dorsey, Jackson, Poe, Powe, whoever ends up getting time this week needs to get into their backfield and disrupt that pocket in the most heinous and dirty ways possible.

5. Our Secondary: They need to show up, and enforce this game. Flowers needs to get in and get sharp asap. Berry needs to be able to be somewhat free in this game so he can do what he does best, stop the run and make big plays. These guys are going to need to be able to create a turnover this week, either by dominating coverage alone, or by going out there and creating the turnovers themselves.

6. Our Offensive Line: Charles and Hillis will do their due diligence this week. They will get in, keep their eyes on the prize and give their 110% effort. The Bills have talent in their front 7, enough to create somewhat of a roadblock on a good day, but we're going to have to stymie that chance from the start. Lilja, Hudson, and Asamoah need to have monster games in the interior and keep the heart of their defense out of our backfield. The bills have a conundrum of a front line. Very talented group, very under performing and underrated as a whole, but that shouldn't confuse anyone. When those guys kick on their A game, they are going to be very effective at what they do. This needs to not happen.

7: Offensive Gameplan: Boring, simple as that, boring. This needs to be a ball control, Captain Efficient type of game. We need to run hard, run often, and dink and dunk our way to a win. It won't be an exciting game, and people will criticize the gameplan for lacking explosiveness and aggression, but the real heart of the matter is, we gotta get our first win by any means necessary. Getting that first one is the single most important thing we can focus on at this point in the season. We don't look to the playoffs, look at the possibility of a 9 or 10 win season and maybe a divisional crown, we need to hunker down and get that first W on the board, and its going to start with ball control. I will be a happy camper if I see us rush 40 times for 200 yards in this game, and Matt Cassel sits back in the pocket untouched, sitting in a lawn chair sipping on his koolaid and collecting his Pioli Moneys.

10 catches for Dex.

I guess the McCluster homers are going all in now that they had a little taste of "NFL average."

Its all about the mismatch, we talk about getting Baldwin involved all we want, but if the bills send a pass rush in there, Dex is going to have a big day with Captain Dink in the pocket. Everyone talks about Dex having 70+ catches this season and anything is possible, but we're talking a sub 10 yard average which isn't too glorious of a statistic, but if it helps us convert first downs, why wouldn't you take advantage of that mismatch?

I'll tell you this much, if Dexter doesn't see 5-6 catches in this game, we're going to end up playing 30 or 40 ball with Buffalo because they'll have shit the bed with their defensive game plan, because Bowe and Baldwin will end up with massive games and Cassel will look like a "pro bowl" alternative.

Yeah 86 yards in limited playing time is average. It prorates out to just under 1400 yards for the mathematically challenged.
