Late night bullshit: a 2014 Chiefs mock. Because **** you.
Assumptions:
1. Chiefs go 8-8, Alex Smith performs about how you expect him to. Chiefs are not interested in replacing him as starter. Don't even argue the point. We know the goddamn truth.
2. Chiefs let Tyson Jackson, Tony Moeaki, and Kendrick Lewis walk.
3. Chiefs sign Terrance Copper, Geoff Schwartz, Husain Abdullah, and Thomas Gafford on 1-year deals.
4. Chiefs sign Albert long-term this offseason. Chiefs sign McCluster to a $12million/5 year deal, and Jon Asamoah to a $20 million/4 year deal.
5. The Chiefs lose their 3rd to the 49ers for Alex Smith.
On with the show.
1. NT Daniel McCullers, Tennessee
The draft nuts on this site know me by now: I love DL. That's where my heart is, and for mid-1st talent, I think McCullers is a world beater. He is exactly the kind of talent you want at NT, and Dontari Poe makes plenty of sense in this scheme as a DE.
2. WR DeVante Parker, Louisville
The search to pad out the WR corps continues. Parker joins Bowe, Baldwin, McCluster, and Avery as a WR corps trying to discover itself.
4. OLB Walker May, Vanderbilt
The Chiefs continue to need depth behind Hali and Houston. They have some hope with Zombo and Catapano, my two favorite backups at the position. But neither is starting material. May adds more competition to the position and provides some starter upside.
5. QB Logan Thomas, Virginia Tech
Shut up. Everybody just shut up. There is little reason to believe that the Chiefs are going to be looking for a QB early in this draft, and there's plenty of evidence to suggest that Thomas is in for a big time slide.
The upside is that the Chiefs get a huge pocket presense as, hopefully, Bray's emergence makes Chase Daniel expendable. Alex Smith, Tyler Bray, Logan Thomas. A year ago we would have loved that.
6. DE Will Clarke, West Virginia
Absolute perfect size for the position, and plus athleticism. The Chiefs need more bodies at the DE position, and along with Dontari Poe moving there, the Chiefs must continue investing.
