Team Captains Announced.

I looked through the first 2 pages and didn't see this posted.

CHIEFS ELECT 2007 SEASON CAPTAINS – WATERS, EDWARDS, McGRAW

Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards announced on Wednesday that the club has designated three players as captains for the 2007 season. Following a player vote, G Brian Waters was chosen to represent the offense, LB Donnie Edwards was chosen to represent the defense and S Jon McGraw was elected to represent the special teams.

“The team elected captains and that’s a big deal when your team elects you as captain,” Edwards said. “I’ve always done it this way where the team voted for the players. The offense votes for the offense, the defense for the defense and the special teams for special teams. It’s better that way. It’s not a popularity contest or a guy that has 20 years in the league or who’s your best friend. It’s about choosing the right guy. They chose these players and they’re well deserved to represent this organization, the National Football League and this team.”

As part of the league’s Team Captains’ recognition initiative, clubs will be authorized, commencing the first regular season game, to honor 2007 team captains with a patch on their jerseys. These patches have been specially designed and will match each club’s primary colors.

Each club will be allowed to designate a maximum of five players who may wear the captain’s patch. After extensive discussion, including input from head coaches and players, the “C” patches are authorized for those players who will serve as captains for the full season.

Waters (6-3, 200) has played in 100 games (86 starts) with the Chiefs. The three-time Pro Bowler (2004-06) joined the Chiefs as a free agent in 2000 and was named AP first-team All-Pro in 2004 and 2005.

Edwards (6-2, 224) rejoined the Chiefs as an unrestricted free agent this off-season after a five-year stint with San Diego. He owns 160 NFL starts and has amassed 27 career interceptions, the most of any active linebacker. Edwards is just one of five active NFL linebackers with over 1,500 career tackles (1,508). He originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick (98th overall) by Kansas City in the ’96 NFL Draft.

McGraw (6-3, 208) joined the Chiefs as an unrestricted free agent from Detroit in March. The Riley County native and Kansas State alumnus originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick (57th overall) of the N.Y. Jets in the 2002 NFL Draft. McGraw has played in 57 regular season games (12 starts), registering 138 tackles (98 solo), three interceptions, 10 passes defensed, two fumble recoveries, a pair of forced fumbles and 64 special teams tackles.
