Where does eveyone stand on smoking bans?
I think it should be up to the owner, and would even be willing to have it up to the owner if you have to be 21 to enter. City wide is bullshit IMO

As an ex-smoker, I cannot stand the smell of cigarette smoke. It is nasty.

But, I'm against the bans, Mr. RedNeckRaider. The market should decide.

I don't care for breathing second hand smoke in any restaurant but I do not approve of a forced ban. All I do is avoid the places that bother me.

I didn't think I'd like it because I really liked smoking a cigar while watching football at the local watering hole.

With that being said. I think it's great. it will be 2 years in April since the ban began here, and I don't miss my clothes stinking like smoke when I get home.

I went to Florida in December, and some asshole left his lit cigarette in his ashtray while he began to eat (this was an outside eating establishment). but he moved the ash tray out of his own way to the side, which blew all the ****ing smoke in my face while I was eating. I smoked for 20 years, and I never did shit like that. I was always courteous while others were eating.

The Libertarian in me says it should be up to the establishment's owner. However, we all know full well 99% of owners won't even send a screaming, free product demanding loser packing, much less a smoker. Owners are simply too chicken.

Since smokers can't keep it to themselves, I'm all for city wide bans.

I've worked in restaurants. Trust me, you smokers suck ass as a group. You ruin the interior of the place, you hang around at the table forever after you're done, and you don't tip worth a f**k (probably because you can't afford to after buying cigarettes).

I'm pretty mixed.

I recognize the slippery slope and the infringement on personal liberties.

That being said, I love being able to go out to hear live music or have a drink without having to deal with second hand smoke. As a guy who had a pregnant wife as his designated driver, I really appreciated it.

Fayetteville is pretty much a non-smoking town at this point in time, though the actual ban is only on establishments that have a certain % of their profits from food. 21 and over clubs can still allow smoking.

One major drawback for me is that now anywhere with an outdoor patio for dining is absolutely chock full of smokers. We used to love to dine outside on patios, but now you do so while everyone around you is sucking down cigarettes and blowing smoke in your faces. That sucks when you have kids with allergies.

I politely ask people like that to either move the cigarette or put it out. Only a couple of times have I gotten the "f**k you, pal", and I will then ask the waiter to re-seat me or handle the problem.

When I go in a place that allows smoking I also try and make sure I'm not being sat on the edge of the smoking section.

Can't they invent some kind of full head helmet (like astronaut gear or an upside-down fishbowl, or something) that smokers can wear that keeps all the smoke inside? Like a Salem Sallet or Viceroy Visor or maybe a Camel Casque?
