The BCS taking aim at the NFL's playoff "problem"

The BCS propaganda blog is savaging the NFL and they are using a Whitlock column in the process:

http://playoffproblem.com/wordpress/?p%3d88

For what it is worth, I think the solution to ensure that teams play to win after clinching everything is to extend homefield advantage to include hosting the Super Bowl for teams that finish 16-0.

Make the regular Super Bowl host location rotation Miami, New Orleans and Pheonix/Glendale and in a year where a team finishes the regular season 16-0 and advances in the playoffs to host the Super Bowl (which obviously won't happen often), the city that was scheduled to host the Super Bowl that year will get bumped to the following year.

Has it always been an issue for playoff bound teams to rest their starters? I can't remember it ever being complained about in the past.

Teams have always rested starters once they clinch. Its a bigger deal now because the NFL is more popular than it was 20+ years ago and we live in a 24/7 media age....

And you don't see college programs doing this in the second half of their last games?

At least the NFL teams can't schedule a bunch of cupcakes to preserve their records, you have to play a whole slate of teams at home and on the road that will present challenges.

I guess college teams should also keep in all their starters in a blowout.

I can't recall a team (NYJ) getting two consecutive opponents that basically lied down and let them in the playoffs.

Teams never guarantee they'll be in contention or that particular players will be playing. I think that's probably printed on the back of the ticket in that microscopic font... so that doesn't hold much water.

It's been an issue for years, but always seems to die down once the playoffs start.

If it works = smart.
If it doesn't = dumb.

I think it got so much more attention this year because the Colts were undefeated when they decided to start yanking the starters.

They have no business being in the playoffs in any normal year... they won't get anywhere.

I mean if the Colts weren't gonna play them the whole game when they were 14-0, then they shouldn't have played at all. Then dipshit comes out and says 16-0 isn't historic in the Colts opinion WTF?
