Sunglasses buying philosophy
I'm getting old, and I love it, mostly.

Never been a sunglasses wearer, thus never been a sunglasses buyer.

Don't know where I'll land. I am sunglasses-agnostic.

Which are you? Why?

I got a pair of Smith's that are amazing at cutting the glare while on the water yet look nice enough I can wear anywhere. They had a better warranty than Oakley's too.

My Smiths were $150 and are polarized and well made. Worn by a lot of people who spend time outdoors and like to hunt and fish.

If you are going high end nothing rocks like the Revo's. Serengeti's are great too if they look good on you. I got tired of paying those prices though and can get a rocking deal on a pair a body gloves that look and feel great at a really cheap price but Revo's they are not.

I have a pair of Oakleys. Probably out of my age range, and makes me auto douche in some views, but I love them.

Besides, I had broken/lost so many cheapies that I figured if I put down enough change on a decent pair, that I would actually care for them and make them last. And I was right.

I had a pair of Oakleys that lasted me 10 years; I loved the damn things. Then again, I had a decent pair of Ray-Bans that I broke in 2 years.

Eh, I'll just buy another high-dollar pair. They're lighter, more effective and a damn sight more comfortable. I could eat hamburger every night instead of steak as well, but sometimes spending a little extra is worth it.

Sunglasses qualify, IMO.

I've been several options in the poll. There is a difference. There's a lot to be said for a quality pair of polarized shades. That said, I try to buy nice shades cheap. Sometimes I'll see a decent pair of $85-150 sunglasses at a surplus store for $20. I'll buy 2 or 3 pair of them. But I generally wear cheap ones these days because I've become cheap in my old age. I picked up a dozen pair of tinted safety glasses for work a couple years back for about $1.50 apiece and they're actually polarized. Wish I had bought every pair they had.
