Nursing Homes in the Northland
Hey everyone, sorry for even starting this thread and I know I'll get grief for it so my appoligies up front but my mom died unexpectedly a few months ago and my step father is in need of a nursing home but his only ask is that it be a private room vs. a semi private room. I called New Mark and a couple others and they are all semi private, Does anyone know of a nursing home in the northland that has a private room? Again, thought I would ask because we have some pretty smart people on here. Thanks for any help you can give.

Would your father be eligible for in-home care? Not sure if the level of support he needs, but oftentimes there are services that allows a person to "age in place.". You might contact your local Area Agency on Aging and/or Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC). They would have more info about what options are available in your area, including what nursing homes have private rooms.

This is a relevant thread to me as my mom is pretty much bed ridden at home right now.We have a hospice nurse that comes by,but not even every day.They told me some nursing home prices and they were really high,plus i've heard the care can be pretty shoddy.As the only child,i've pretty much been her care taker,but it can be difficult somedays.I called her insurance and they don't offer any assistance for in home nurse aids,still trying to figure out if she can get assistance anywhere else before we start to pay out of pocket. Anyway best of luck to you OP and your current situation.

Nursing home can mean a lot of things. Does your step father need constant medical care? Does he need memory care? Is he able to live in an independent living or assisted living environment?

A quality nursing home in a healthcare setting with full time healthcare can easily run up to 20k per month. A independent living setting could typically range from 2.5-7k per month and assisted living more than that.

What ever facility you choose I'm sure the administration will do some sort of life assessment to find proper placement within their facility.

Good luck finding the best place for him.

New Mark is a good facility. My mom is there as she is suffering from Parkinson's and dementia and needs full time care.

While not the greatest facility, the staff does a great job for the price point (sorry to have to put it on that level) and the residents are well cared for.

I wish you best of luck in helping you family member. And no need to apologize, this is a challenging thing to do for our loved ones.

Only one I have experience with is Gardens at Barry Road. They are outstanding and have private room options. Also provide outstanding memory care if Alzheimer’s/Dementia is part of the equation.

No need to apologize, man. Good for you in trying to find the best place for your step dad. What sort of care does he need? Is he just looking for a place that has people there to help do basic care or does he need full-time around the clock care? Does he have dementia/Alzheimer's or any other ailment?
