Arbitrator who decided on Owens case to be dismissed by NFLPA

Gene Upshaw commented that he "interpreted the rule wrong and added on to the agreement things that weren't there". Then went on to say a person like that can't be an arbitrator.

So Richard Bloch is out of a job due to his decision.

They are angry because they killed the apeal before they could even launch it, costing the NFLPA's lawyers lots of money.

Maybe Bloch wanted a paid vacation, so he did this on purpose just to get fired and collect a severance and/or unemployment.

Seriously, I was surprised to learn that the union hires the arbitrators. How can you expect a guy to be objective when his paycheck comes from one of the two sides in the argument?

There is something seriously wrong with this picture. How can an arbitrator be "impartial" if he knows he will be fired if he makes a decision that angers one of the parties involved? There needs to be a complete overhaul of the system to make sure the arbitrator can be impartial without fear of job loss.

What I gather is, according to Gene Upshaw. He interpreted things into the grievance on behalf of the Eagles that are not in the collective bargaining agreement. That is why the NFLPA is pissed at the guy and getting rid of him.

I can't understand why the NFLPA wants T.O. around? He's a huge jerk and sheds bad light on all NFL players IMO. He got what he deserved IMO. Maybe Upshaw should be replaced.

This is the same arbitrator that was a season ticket holder for Redskins games, and he was involved in a big dispute a few years ago, for a player that I think played for Washington, the NFLPA didn't have a problem with that at the time.

I am glad to see this end for now.
