My trip to the bank.

It's about a three-block walk to the bank, and I had a little money to put in. Here's what I saw on my way to Mulberry Street, which gave me pause.

1. I saw a homeless guy panhandling while smoking a cigarette. Who's going to give money to a guy who's smoking a cigarette? I'll bet he cut his potential market by 80 percent. Know your market, homeless man! Know your market!

2. At the bank, I had a very pleasant teller whose arms were as hairy as mine. Hairy arms are okay on a guy, but on a 30 year-old woman, they're not good, not good at all. And of course, she's filling out the deposit receipt, so I had to stand there and stare at them. Long, dark hair like Robin Williams has. Ugh.

3. On my way back, I passed a nail salon, and in the front window there was an Asian woman having her nails done by a white woman. It was the day spa equivalent of Planet of the Apes. Freaked me out.

You may go back to your business now.

I just got back from the bank as well, a teller I have never seen before started asking me how is work going....oh pretty good I say....I see that *grin* he says....I'm just like give me my damn receipt

Dang. What was I thinking? Usually I'm more savvy than that.

He could make out like a bandit with only a demographic analysis to identify corners that have the highest aggregate income walking by (among Democrats, of course), and then perhaps some focus group testing to figure out the best look and the best sign. For probably $20,000, I could quadruple his income.

Yea, but would it have to become a full-time job?
Or could he keep his bass playing gig on the side?

What panhandler is gonna drop $5 on a pack of smokes when a significant percentage of smokers will just give him one cigarette at at time? If he's smart enough not to light up right away, he could have 20 cigarettes in his pocket within a couple hours if enough smokers walk by... all for free!
