Tom Brady flips cointoss for SB XL???

I just heard this on Around the Horn. Why would we have a current player who got his ass kicked in the playoffs flip the cointoss? How bad do people really want the Patriots to be a part of this game? I could care less if they ever make the SB again. This is insane.

I have no idea why the NFL gave him this opportunity, or why he accepted.

This is the first time a current NFL player who is not playing in the SB has been involved in the SB coin toss, and I cannot see the logic for it.

The only reason any of us can think of is that it's because he went to the University of Michigan and the game is in Detroit. To me, that makes no sense and is basically completely reeruned.

I don't know why he's involved, but I wish he wasn't. I can't even begin to figure out why he would have said "yes" to this dumb idea.

Manning should do it on the theory that that's the only way he'll ever get to a Super Bowl....?

I was just thinking that he's the only guy who gets more hand-jobs from the media than Brady does.

Here's more on the Brady tossing of the coin, which sort of explains it, kinda sorta... Still can't say I care for it.

http://www.boston.com/sports/footbal.../reiss_pieces/

More on Brady's toss

More details have become available regarding Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's involvement with the opening coin toss in Super Bowl XL.

According to NFL Director of Corporate Communications Brian McCarthy, Brady will toss the coin before the game.

The NFL is assembling more than 30 Super Bowl MVPs on the field before the game as part of its season-long campaign to celebrate 40 years of Super Bowls. The league will begin the game by saluting the current players, and has chosen Brady -- the two-time Super Bowl MVP and three-time Super Bowl champion -- to represent all current players.

Brady becomes the first active, non-participating player to flip the coin for a Super Bowl game.

After the game, two-time Super Bowl MVP Bart Starr will be part of a ceremony that recognizes all past players.

I guess I just assumed that Jerome Bettis's mom would do the coin toss.

After the game? The guys who built the f**king league are going to be "honored" when everyone is leaving the stadium and has thier backs to the field? Very classy.
