I need a little tech help, please and thank you.

I'll start by confessing that I am, admittedly, not a computer geek, hence my post. With that said, here's my problems.

I'm still using the old Windows ME (don't say it, just keep reading). Normally, when I go into Explore, I can click on any picture I have saved on my drive and it opens in a new window. For some inexplicable reason, that has gone away and been replaced by "my problem."

For grins, I'm trying to open a picture of Trent Green right now. Instead of the pic opening in a new window, I get this:

I thought to myself, "Hey, just click open. That should work!"

It just repeats the warning window.

How do I get my setting back so it opens pics in a new window?

Rep, or some other worthless trinket, for whoever solves my problem.

Thanks all.

The computer dummy.

This may be a cop out, but WinME problems are a pain in the arse to troubleshoot. You might consider using the built-in restore feature. You can find it under Start: Programs: Accessories: System Tools: System Restore. Pick the newest date that you know it was working correctly.

This method won't delete any files on your computer, but it will reset any settings for programs you've changed. Also, you'd need to reinstall any programs you've installed after your restore date. This sounds a bit drastic, but if you only go back a couple days it's no big deal at all. Let me know if that doesn't work and I'll see what I can find.

I don't know if this works in ME but try right clicking on the pic and selecting "Open With" on the menu that pops up. Then choose the program you want to use to handle pics from the list that pops up. You might have to browse for the program if it doesn't pop up. That is, if this works in ME.

Yeah, ... that's a cop out and not a fix. Thanks anyway. Keep looking.

yea ... sounds like your file association got screwed up.

generally it gives you the chance to "open with" "always use this" to reset your associations.

you can also reinstall your photo viewing program ... it will usually set itself up as the proper opening program again.

i don't know about ME ... but

open windows explorer > folder options > file type tab > .jpg >change opening type > search to program.

(the above is for XP ... but general idea)

This is a totally un-tech savy response, but I would just buy a new OS or computer.

This is a long shot, but try going into the "Start" menu and "Search" for C:\Chiefs\Green.jpg then see where your PC says the file is located.

also try a bitmap photo etc to see if it's just .jpg files that don't work.

Bitmaps open normally, as do .gif files.
ALL .jpg files give me that same warning box.
