Hypothetical: Internship

Assume that you decided to get an advanced degree in bioagrigeonumismatical engineering, with a minor in history. As part of your degree program, you are required to do an internship in bioagrigeonumismatical engineering.

The school lines up a lot of internships, and you study them and make your applications. You apply for temporary bioagrigeonumismatical engineering internships as follows:

1. Playboy needs a bioagrigeonumismatical intern for their "Bi-curious Supermodels Romping in Aruba" photo shoot.

2. Lamborghini needs a bioagrigeonumismatical intern to drive their newest model around the nation and monitor public reactions.

3. The Kansas City Chiefs are experimenting with a new bioagrigeonumismatical department, and they want to test the concept with some interns before they start offering big salaries to them upon graduation.

4. Seaborn Cruises needs a bioagrigeonumismatical intern to serve for three months aboard their renowned "Cruise of Opulent Luxury" that will sail the Mediterranean over the summer.

5. Famous management consultant Subagatti Misrwathornaportapatti needs a bioagrigeonumismatical intern to work very closely with his clients who are participating in his "Rich, Lonely People Without Heirs: How to Find a Worthy Acquaintance to Leave Your Estate to" seminar.

Sadly, you had a typo on your resume, which stated that you have a "genious-level IQ", and in your cover letter you mistakenly said, "Your and idiot if you don't hire me." As a result, you didn't get interviews, and these internship positions were filled by other candidates that you tutored on weekends, and who aren't nearly as knowledgeable about bioagrigeonumismatical engineering as you are.

You trudge to the internship office, and you find that there are four internship opportunities left. No one applied for these opportunities, so you can have your pick. They are:

1. Outdoors bioagrigeonumismatical monitoring 100 miles north of the South Pole, where it's now winter.

2. Outdoors bioagrigeonumismatical monitoring 200 miles northeast of Timbuktu in the Sahara, where it's now summer.

3. Underground bioagrigeonumismatical monitoring in the world's fourth-deepest coal mine, 200 miles northwest of Xian, China.

4. Urban bioagrigeonumismatical monitoring at a leper colony in a low-income neighborhood in Calcutta, India.

My ranking:

Timbuktu: the desert is hot but hell get a pool.

China: underground sucks but you are not there all the time.

Calcutta: The city will be nice even though it is shitty, hot, and a leper colony.

South Pole: screw that, i hate the cold.

I debated long and hard about this.

The coal mine is out immediately. A third-world coal mine is simply not a place I want to visit, for a lot of reasons.

Calcutta comes in third. It's not an uplifting environment, and the pollution, etc., would not be a lot of fun. That would be offset by the fact that Calcutta probably has a few good restaurants and some movie theaters and stuff. Still, it comes in third.

The Sahara would be pretty interesting for three months, and it would've been my top pick except for one thing: I don't think I could carry that much sunscreen. I sunburn like a piece of bread in a toaster, and if I was working outside all day, I think I would fry.

My pick, by default, was Antarctica. Clean, uncrowded, and it would be a cool place to say that you've been. The cold is the only problem with this internship, and it's admittedly a big problem, but I could probably deal with it for three months.

Well, the Fallujah Bioagrigeonumismatical Engineering Institute originally didn't even post their internship, but...

At first glace I was going to take Antarctica, because I can't stand the heat. Then it occured to me that there are probably more things to experience in the Sahara. So I chose that.

I assuming you'll be properly outfitted, which means Antarctica would be a breeze in comparison to the rest.

I went with Antarctica. I like the cold and maybe I can make a cameo in March of the Penguins II.

Or at least a job as an extra in the crowd scenes.
