One guy can make all the difference. It made all the difference for the Denver Broncos for years. It made all the difference for the Chiefs during Derrick Thomas' career.
Don' ever let them take you off the bridge of that ship. Because while you're there....you can make a difference!!! - Captain Kirk

Although he is my favorite player, how many Superbowl rings did DT bring to KC? As for the donks, Elway had nothing until he got TDavis. Now, he may be the missing piece of the puzzle but that will only be the case if existing players step it up another notch along with his performance.

I view it as another piece of the puzzle.....Sims, if healthy, along with Edwards, should upgrade the DT position, if marginally. Hali will be an upgrade over Hicks, the only question is "when." DJ, Kawika, and Allen are maturing--and all could really have "break-out" years. Teams can't "pick on" the #2 CB anymore....which will mean less gambling by our safeties. I think Pollard will push Knight to play harder; and Law's presence and leadership and experience will only help the secondary.
Overall, a young and improving defense, has just picked up a real leader and playmaker. He may not be the Law of 4-5 years ago....but with everything else that's going on with our defense, he should help immensely. Seriously. He could be the final "cog" in a machine that has been getting better....anyway. He puts them "there," barring major injuries with the others. We've gone from a team with 1 or 2 bright spots on "defense," to a team with only one or two holes (a DT, maybe a Saftey 'away'), IMHO.

Because in todays NFL with how close even the good teams are with each other 1 guy who can make a few plays in a game can be the difference in 9-7 and 12-4.

it's not just one player though. That one player is making a weakness a strength. Instead of having a weakness at 2dt positions and at cb, and possibly safetey, that cb position is now a strength. It's never just one guy, there are 11 guys on the field at a time, and all 11 must do their job for the defense to be a success. Remember when one side of the field would be covered by surtain last year but the reciever on the other side would torch dexter? Well that won't happen to Law. While DJ or Allen is closing in on a sack this season, the qb can't just launch the ball up for grabs and have a reciever wide open to catch it because mccleon can't cover anyone. One corner last year seemed to **** up every play, and even if everyone else was doing their job it didn't matter bc someone was wide open downfield. Hopefully Wesley will improve this season and help this as well

The Hope with this now is having 3 very solid veterans that know what they're doing around Wesley will be enough to make him ok. Atleast they can tell him what the hell he should be doing.

Dieon Sanders = why Steve Young has a ring.
He got the Niners over the hump in a big way by changing the attitude of that defense and giving them some flair. It was well documented that year and he went to Dallas the next year and help Barry Switzer get a ring. So yes one player can make a big difference. Although Ty Law at 32 or any age is nowhere near Dieon Sanders in his prime... |

Why? Because this guy can change the way we play defense. We now have 2 CB's who can be put on islands against WRs. That allows more aggressive blitzing and coverage schemes. It also helps us a lot considering the way Gun plays his CBs. Gun doesn't play CB #1 and #2, he plays RCB and LCB. What teams could do is take their #1 WR and match him up with our weaker corner by just moving said WR to the other side of the field. Now that we have great CBs on both sides, teams can't gain such an advantage.
