Carruth Gets 19 Years

Judge Charles Lamm sentenced Rae Carruth to a minimum of 19 years in prison for conspiracy to commit murder and firearms charges. Carruth was convicted Friday of plotting to kill his pregnant girlfriend Cherica Adams. The former Carolina Panthers wide receiver was acquitted of first-degree murder, for which he could have been executed

Sports figures (even average ones like Carruth) really <i>can</i> get away with murder.

Wow, my crime was just a simple, misguided wedding ceremony and I got 6 years for that.

I wonder if Rae will be able to run a 4.4 in 19 years.... He sure won't be getting anybody else pregnant - I don't think you have to worry about that type of thing in the state pen. He sure has a purty mouth....

The judge or prosectution in this case made a serious error...they didn't give the jury any choice but first degree murder or acquittal...if they had allowed for a lesser murder charge, say 2nd degree, he would have been convicted of murder and served 25 to life...

19 years...unless it is without the possibility of parole, he will be eligible to get out in about 8 years...or less

In the mean time he appeals and sees no hard prison time for another year or more...this is sad...

I guess he'll be the first one picked for the prison football team and he for sure will be someone's biatch...and he did ruin his life for the most part...still...

Goes to show that celebrity will allow you to get away with murder...:mad:

Joe,

In a NC capital murder trial, it's ALL or nothing. That's the way their law is and everyone knew from day one that they'd get their 1st degree conviction or nothing.

Thanks Kloster, I didn't know that was state law...it doesn't leave much room for the idiots in the jury...

I thought it was the judge's or prosecutor's decision...perhaps they made the mistake of seeking a capital muder conviction in the first place...maybe the should have charged him with 2nd...I've heard though, that the evidence was strong...how can a jury seemingly ingnore the testimony of the victim herself?...boggles the mind...

Once again, black or white, had it been you or me, we'd be looking at a lethal injection...what a great injustice system we have....

Rae Rae's mama was interviewed over my lunch hour..she was sitting at a table with a couple of jury memebers...she went on a rant that they couldn't prove anything..."give me 1 piece of evidence..." "what do you know about drugs?" and "you can't possibly understand the black man..you have it made so easy, you couldn't understand".."how many black people have been in your home in the last year"..blah blah blah....but the man did respond "40-50"

you can't pull the race card on everything...killing "people" is wrong...blood is red, no matter the wrapper color.

He should be walkin' the Green Mile.

Maybe I can't understand the "black" experience but what I do understand that black, white or purple, you're not suppose to kill the women that is carrying your unborn child...or conspire to have her killed...

Last I heard that was illegal no matter what color you are...

So what, is she saying that because her son is black it's okay to do the things he was convicted of?...that's what I don't understand...

She ought to be grateful that at least she'll still be able to see her son alive in the prison vistiting room and not have to visit his grave...

In a way she is right. I don't know what its like to "be Rae"...I've bever been paid millions of dollars to PLAY football...

As far as I'm concerned, any person whos job description contains the word "play" has no right to claim a tough life as a defense...He was obviously not Living in the Ghetto nor being "held down by the man"....though he might be tonight by his prison husband:)
