HOUND DOG ELVIS IS GOING TO HONOLULU
Chiefs QB Finally Gets His Due

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Elvis Grbac has been added to the AFC roster for the 2001 Pro Bowl. Grbac replaces Steve McNair, who will miss the game due to shoulder surgery. Grbac, who will make his first Pro Bowl appearance, threw for a career-high 4,169 yards this season. His 28 touchdown passes, tied for second-most in the AFC, was also a career high.

Grbac completed 326 of 547 pass attempts and passed for a franchise record 4,169 yards in only 15 games of action this past season.

Grbac will join former teammate and current Oakland Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon and Indianapolis Colts signal caller Peyton Manning. It will be Grbac's first trip to the pro bowl.

Congrats to EG...Although I've allways said, the pro bowl is a popularity contest and nothing more, there are those around here, like Ken, who put a lot of stock in a player going to the Pro Bowl.

This could end up hurting the Grbackers in KC.

Why?

Because this gives Grbac more leverage in his upcoming contract negotiations.

He may just go ahead and tell Carl he wants that 10 mil., or else he's testing the waters.

This shouldn't hurt anyone. Had he been chosen originally, maybe. IMO, there is no leverage for Grbac, Bashers, Backers, etc.

Elvis has a good season, statistically. However, I look at this pro bowler like I look at the Chiefs last pro bowl QB: Steve Bono. A couple of injuries to deserving pro bowl QBs have allowed Elvis a spot on the team. Good news for Elvis. Bad news for the salary cap. Elvis is going to break the bank.

Spin it any way you want - it isn't gonna change the fact that he is going. Quite funny how you hammer him for a number of problems (some justified, other not), injuries being one, and he is going because HE DID NOT GET INJURED!!!

Brian (I missed seven games) Griese and Steve (can't throw a completion past 10 yards) McNair were deserving QB's? Grbac had a good season statistically, but he did a fine job QBing this team. yeah he had blunders, but so did golden boy Gannon and certainly Steve McNair.

This should have been the PB lineup in the first place!!!!

Griese made it on inflated stats -vs- inferior opponents. The boy missed <i>six</i> games!

I'm glad that Grbac is going - he's a good guy. But, you can drop the Griese stuff... He had a so/so first year and he had a great year in 2000, despite missing that many games. You can't say that he got in on a popularity vote either.

If Griese can overcome the shoulder injuries, he will be a solid NFL QB for years to come. Deal with it.
