When we should have known

Last game 2005:
Chiefs 37, Bengals 6
Chiefs blow out playoff team at home with balanced offensive explosion

First game of 2006:
Bengals 23, Chiefs 10
Chiefs fold like a cheap wallet at home against a team they crushed in '05

That REALLY alarmed me. I knew something was really different about the offense in that very first game. Yes, the absence of Roaf and Richardson were big. Yes, Trent was knocked out of the game. But the difference between the last game of '05 and the first game of '06, same field, same opponent, most of the same players was night and day. Turns out that game was a good indicator of what the 2006 Chiefs would become.

You're talking about the Home Opener this year, right?

The game where Cincinatti actually played all of their starters?

Got it.

When bothered most about that game, other than losing and the cheap shot on Green, is that Herm was already trying to cover his ass...throwing DV under the bus for supposedly running up the score on them last year. It was like, "in case we lose, blame Dick Vermeil."

I found it peculiar, that he was in damage control about his worry for the Cleveland team. All week to the media, "he was worried" about this game.

Its a crock.

Wasn't the 2005 game @ KC and the 2006 @ CIN?

I don't recall, but did CIN play everyone in 2005 ... weren't they locked up and ready to go for the playoffs?

Both games were in KC, and as I pointed out, they didn't play starters in 2005. Resting for playoffs.

Both games were at Arrowhead. Even with the playoffs locked up, and resting starters, they were completely blown off the field.

Generally when all your good players don't play......you lose. The Bengals didn't even try to win that game.

Ok, so knowing those 2 things... doesn't that sorta make the "blowout" a bit meaningless when comparing to game 1 the next season?

They were both in Arrowhead.

The Bengals didn't play their starters all game. This is a horrible example.
