Cade McNown

What do you guys think of trying to pick this guy up if he gets dumped by the Bears? I loved him in college and thought he would be a solid NFL player. While he has had accuracy issues with the Bears, he was extremly accurate in a West-Coast type offense at UCLA. Seems as if the 'O' we are installing would be a nice fit for him.

It seems that, while his play has been suspect, most of his problems in Chicago stem from pesonality issues.

He lacks motivation and his teammates don't like him.

These are things that maturity and a change of scenery might cure. A good HC and OC might help, as well.

I'm not sure that Jauron isn't in over his head.

Yeah, I'd take a chance on him.
I thought he was going to be the best of the QB crop when he came out.

No thanks. I didn't like him coming out of college (don't get to see much of the west coast teams, I guess that might be why). But I also think he only got taken that high because of the QB-mania that went on in that draft. Kind of like what happened with DTs in this years draft. So many were picked that one or two got taken higher than they might have deserved. So far he has done as much for the Bears as Ryan Leaf did for the Chargers from what I can tell. I'd actually be more interested in Shane Matthews as a back-up.

I'd definatly take a chance on him. His problems seem to stem from immaturity in handling his new wealth and status as opposed to lack of talent or problems with the law.

The guy has lots of talent. Love to see him in the Red & Gold.

Seeing his woman in the stands (Heather Kozar, I believe ... Playmate of the year in I believe 1999. Got the issue at home) would be better than seeing him on the field, IMO.

I would be willing, however, if he signed for around the league minimum. He's got to be better than Bubby.

~~Would rather have Heather's autograph than Cade's.

I remember reading a story about him in training camp his rookie year. He bet a teammate that he could throw the football into a basketball rim from the other end of the court. He did it on the first try. Says something of his accuracy.

Arm Strength? Not Brett Favre. But possesses a much better gun than Matthews or Miller.

As for his maturity, he needs to grow up, but he doesn't sound like Ryan Leaf either.

A large number of teams will check this guy out if he come available.

Yeah, it's Heather Kosar.

He "stole" her from Tim Couch after Tim introduced them. Then he proceeded to buy her a $60k car after they had been dating a month. I think Heather is from Chicago as well.

I have no idea if they are still together - this all happened in the offseason last year.

Cade McKnown has the tools - he just needs the chance and a positive environment.

Chicago will not dump him any time soon...

It does seem unlikely HC, but some recent articles have him on the outs up there. He has a big rookie contract. He's in his third year with some playing time so he's gotten a decent chance. Not exactly a huge hit with his team or coaching staff. I really wouldn't be surprised to see him gone. The only reason he hasn't been cut IMHO is that he was a high pick and reasonably young with skills. Akili Smith is in the same boat really.

Can't say he has had the opportunity to be the full-time QB...Jauron had him splitting time with Matthews(KC draft pick btw) and/or Miller.

A lot of fans and media types are calling for his head, but the coaching staff and front office have gone on record stating they weren't about to give up on their highly touted QB prospect(which cost them a high #1 and a nice chunk of change) in the forseeable future.

I don't think Shane Matthews was a KC draft pick. There was another Matthews about the same time that was KC's pick wasn't it?

Shane Matthews was a Bear draft pick and has been with them all 7 or 8 years of his career.
