My new travel record.

I actually don't travel much for my job, but via a combination of events and a bunch of connecting flights, I have set foot in nine different airports in 13 days: (in chronological order) Denver, Detroit, New York, Memphis, Orange County (CA), Los Angeles, Phoenix, Baltimore, and Charlotte. I figure a few of you around here can probably beat that, so what say ye? Who can top it?

I also will eventually make someone suspect a database error, because on one day I had two active car rentals 2,500 miles apart. (My wife was driving one in California while I had the other in Baltimore, but I signed for both of them.)

Don't you love peoplewatching in airports, Rain Man? They are truly a smorgasbord of humanity.

Oh, yeah. Other than Caribbean resorts and possibly day spas, airports are the best peoplewatching possible.

I once flew from Des Moines to Phoenix to Las Vegas and took the redeye to Miami. Spent the day on the beach and then flew from Fort Lauderdale to Pittsburgh to Charlotte, attended a meeting then flew from Charlotte to Kansas City to Des Moines.

That was from Sunday at 5pm to Tuesday at about 6 pm.

And you didn't even stop by for a drink.

I don't smoke pot, but if I did, I'd get high and hang out in that strangely-lit tunnel at DTW....

That's pretty cool. Too bad you couldn't do Charlotte before Pittsburgh.

My record on connections in one flight was Austin to Houston to St. Louis to New York to Anchorage to Seoul to Hong Kong. I then turned around and went back to Seoul, which was my original destination, but it was something like $200 cheaper to stay on the plane and spend a day in Hong Kong.

Traveling for the job.... I'm based out of Omaha and (at the moment) have a place there, but when my 3-6 months is done here I won't be home very long before going somewhere else. I figured I could do it for a couple of years before wanting to settle down (relatively speaking).

I could see why people get tired of traveling, but I've gotten used to the typical airport hassles, and with working so much it's actually a good chance to relax.

At your life stage, I'd think it would be really cool to travel a lot since you have a lot of mobility.

And I wouldn't want to travel all the time, but I agree that airports and airplanes are good places to get work done. For some reason, it's very easy for me to concentrate in those places.

Pittsburgh was never planned, the flight to Charlotte was full so we had to take the extra flight to Pitt to make it to Charlotte on time.
