At number 3 the Chiefs should take a QB...

However, Chiefs fans should not expect the same results as those delivered by Flacco and Ryan. I say that for mainly one reason. Both Flacco and Ryan finished their senior years at their respective schools. That level of maturity and leadership experience certainly helped them in their preparation for their rookie year in the NFL.

Both Stafford and Bradford will be underclassmen if they come out. They won't have the same level of maturity or leadership experience when they hit the NFL. I know they are both leaders, but in college being a senior in the lockerroom carries a lot weight and respect even if there is a talented QB in the lockerroom as well.

Take Mizzou for example. Last season Chase Daniel was a leader on the team, but THE leaders on the team were Pig Brown and Martin Rucker. Seniors carry the big stick in college.

Stafford has been a 3 year starter for Georgia, I believe the kid will make the transition rather smoothly.

What's the difference in being an underclassman versus being a rookie. A QB can lead a team, but there will be veteran players who get more respect in the locker room. That doesn't make the QB any less of a leader on the field. Either he can do it or he can't.

A year of maturation can make a gigantic difference.

Good. Let's pick a senior DE first, then.

Respect has to be earned, leadership follows.

Matt Stafford is 20 years old.
On a young team like the Chiefs, earning that respect would be easier than playing with a team of veterans.

The thing that made both Flacco and Ryan successful this year was a strong running game that limited the need to rely on young QB. Stafford started 3 years, Bradford 2, Sanchez 1 year plus. Each has played in BIG games. I think each would be able to handle the NFL. Question is, can the Chiefs have a strong running game?

QB, but it's so hard to think a 20 year old can turn a franchise around. **** I'm 25 and I can barely turn my egg around on the pan. If not QB then a DE or LB. Shit trade down if Stafford isn't there pick up a couple D players in the 1st round because the Offense this year was scoring, but the D was giving away a lot of points.

Bingo. For all the hype around Flacco or Ryan, people fail to mention that they both have top 5 running games (Atlanta is #2, Baltimore is #4).

But I agree that QB is probably the top priority right now going into the draft and I'm not opposed to using a top 3 pick. But if we don't surround him with a top 5 running game, we likely won't get a Flacco/Ryan like performance from our QB.

If I'm the Chiefs and I can't get Stafford at # 3, then I don't draft a QB there.

The top 3 are as good of a QB class that we've seen in a while. None of these players are going to take the Chiefs to the Super Bowl next year anyway, so show some patience.
Personally, if I'm in total build it from the ground up mode, I would actually prefer the YOUNGER of the QBs. He's got a chance to be a around a fews years longer, which can pay dividends in the long run. That's why I think when all things are equal, I'd rather build around 21/22 year olds, than 24 year olds, just my take. More bang for the buck if they pan out.
