If not, you really should think about doing so. I read my electric, gas and water meters on the 15th every month. You?

I've caught them using my readings from the month before on more that one occasion

Yes, electric and water. We have our own propane tank for gas.

We have to because out here we read the meters and then calculate our own bills. Seriously.

Hell, gas and electric utilities don't even read my meters. The reading is sent to them over some sort of wireless communication. My water use is estimated for two of three months and they read and adjust the total on the third month. If I see something that doesn't look right in the bill I'll check it out. That rarely happens.

So that you can catch read errors by the utilities. My water utility read my meter wrong this month and over-charged me for 10,000 gallons (which equates to about $100). I've had the same happen on electric twice before.
