Misc Refrigerator Question

Hey guys and gals.

For the past week or so, our water volume has been lower on the dispenser of our Maytag Performa Refrigerator. My first instinct was to change the filter. Went and bought a filter, installed it, and still low flow. I pulled the fridge away from the wall and verified that at least from the wall to the filter, there's no sediment/blockage. I took a look at the area connected to the two solenoids in the back but was afraid to start pulling tubes out of places. Since I don't have Haley's finger to reach into the tube, what should I do?

Call a professional?

Do you have a little screen filter in the water supply line itself? Not your main filter but the small sediment screen in the line.

if its hooked up via a 1/4 hose to a shut off under your sink in your angle stop or copper line..

Make sure if u have a self piercing shutoff valve that:

First thing I would do is disconnect the water line from the back of the refrigerator and run the water full blast in to a bucket/out the window/ in the sink or whatever you can do. With a 1/4" water line you should be able to spray the water 20 feet out if your flow is decent. If its going that far, the problem is somewhere on the refrigerator. If its not spraying out real hard you either have low pressure or something restricting the flow. If you have a clamp on saddle valve that might be the problem. Sometimes the pin that pokes the water line will not retract out of the hole, leaving you with a very slow water flow. I don't like to use those, but if I have to I'll drill a 3/16" hole in the line so even if the pin does stick there will be no effect on water flow. Another thing you will want to be sure of is the water line from the wall to the refrigerator is not kinked, or was not kinked when the refrigerator was pushed back to the wall.

Yeah, check the piercing valve if it has one, I've had those clog up before.

Just to confirm -

did you pull out the fridge, shut off the water under the sink, unscrew the 1/4 hose from the back of the fridge and then turn the water back on (point the business end into a bucket or down the sink if you have enough hose) to see if everything up until the fridge is working?

It should shoot an extremely powerful jet of water. I think you did this already from your post but just wanna be totally sure.

Yes. I unscrewed the hose from the tubes headed into the fridge and turned the water up to full strength and had a very strong flow headed into the bucket. I'm confident the problem is somewhere in the fridge/waterline. Oh, and I've noticed the ice cubes seem smaller too.

Huh, that's what started happening with our ice maker as well. We just quit using it and we buy bagged ice now.
