Q: Which team's playoff chances were hurt the most in Week 1? My inclination is to say the Kansas City Chiefs, since they lost a game at home they should've won and lost Eric Berry for the year.

-- Greg (Miss.)

A: That's if you viewed the Chiefs as a legitimate playoff contender coming into this season, Greg. But the vibes on them all summer have not been good. They've had injuries, turmoil, coaching changes -- it's a tough situation there. But the loss to Buffalo at home, in which the Chiefs were beaten in all areas, had to be a major red flag. Other teams also had to be alarmed with what they showed in Week 1: Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, the New York Giants and the St. Louis Rams. Three of those four teams have significant injuries to overcome, and that never is an easy thing to do. The Steelers are trying to overcome the curse of losing the Super Bowl, when teams always seem to struggle the season after losing in the big game. But let's also not go too overboard on any team after Week 1 -- it's only one game for everybody. We got some signs about what could be ahead, but it's a long season and a lot still will change.

KC's loss was easily the worst defeat by any team during week 1. A 34 point BLOWOUT at home by a team that finished 4-12 the year before. Add to that the fact that the Chiefs couldn't even compete and it is not too early to hit the panic button. They looked pathetic.

They've had injuries, turmoil, coaching changes
Besides the Baldwin vs Jones battle (gotta take Jones in that one btw) what turmoil has taken place? Bringing in Charlie Weis knowing he was only going to be OC for one year was dumb. Make him an consultant to teach Muir some tricks and tactics but to make him a OC for year is disruptive.

I'm usually pretty skeptical but thought the team was turning the corner with all the talent they brought in in both coaching staff and players with Cassell and Muir being the big wild card to a successful season. I'm flabbergasted on how badly they got whooped last Sunday. I've been telling people all off-season how good the defense was going to be and they looked just as bad as the offense.

Berry is going to hurt but he's got all season and next off season to recover, he's young and the kind of guy who's going to work his butt off to try and come back 100%.

A victory or at least a strong game is badly needed this Sunday. Oy Vey!

You nailed it regarding the defense. They looked as bad as they did against the Rams in preseason. Like they were talentless and clueless... I can understand the Secondary - especially without Berry, but the DL was a non factor. They are soft everywhere.

I don't think they knew Weis was only a 1 year option. I don't think he and Haley got along.

I'm not sure what Romeo was doing last week. They don't seem able to make adjustments. Justin Houston rushed the QB 98% of the time at GA. You play him 25+ downs and only rush him 3 times when Fitz has had tons of time all game? You have two CBs that some feel are both top 15-20 in the league and he doesn't go man-on-man very often. The soft zone was killing KC.
