So does this firing make drafting a franchise QB top priority?

So, now that Haley is gone, and assuming that Haley not playing Stanzi wasn't just a big F.U. to Pioli by Haley and that Stanzi doesn't go all Matt Moore on us the final three weeks if he plays, does drafting a franchise QB become the top priority going into next season?

The thinking being that Pioli has probably one more shot to prove himself. He ought to know by now that going into next year with Matt Cassel again is likely not going to leave him with much breathing room. But if he goes QB, he energizes the fan base, buys Cassel another year to allow for the grooming of said QB, and buys himself another year for development of said QB. Then, if he hits, he's just made his job a lot easier. If he misses, well, he's likely out after another couple of mediocre years anyway.

If Pioli has learned anything by looking around the league, and looking at what his buddy Dimitrioff did in Atlanta, it is that you can have whatever philosophy it takes to build a team, but if you don't have that QB, your legacy as a GM will be one of a failure. So if you are ever going to take that chance, now is it. Hell, every team in this division is starting a QB who was drafted in round 1 except the Chiefs.

Is that crazy thinking?

You'd think, but I guess it comes down to how badly Pioli wants to prove he was right by giving Cassel the big bucks, and how willing whichever new coach comes in here would be to live with that.

Given that Dimitrioff is Pioli's best friend I would not discount him taking advice and following the same approach. Nice reference to Pioli's buddy.

Since Pioli is willing to be wrong about Haley and fire him during the season I want to believe he is willing to be wrong about Cassel.

With a new HC, you generally get a new QB.

I have to think Clark will need a franchise QB to re-energize the fanbase, now.

It should have already been the highest priority.

We don't need Cassel in any equation what so ever for a young QB to wait his turn.

With the three games left, start Stanzi let him get the feel for the game. Draft a QBotf in first round, let them battle it out for the start of a fresh new season. We can find a young 3rd string QB during the offseason or draft another late rounder for that roll. Hell a first and a 6th rounder QB with Stanzi here rid any notion to play a reject QB. Wouldn't hurt us a damn bit.

Pioli admitted he was wrong by firing Haley so I don't see any way he would refuse to admit to being wrong about Cassel.

drafting a 1st round QB is the ONLY choice now, it doesn't matter if some 2nd round prospect is the best option, you draft him in the first! We have to do this.

Things were going so well with the QB we had I suppose we will abandon these stellar examples of Football skill and start over now......

We're undoubtedly trading Firsts in 2012 and 2013 to the Pats for Ryan Mallett...

maybe even Brian Hoyer...
