Rob Lowe, current star of NBC’s Parks and Recreation, posted a message on his Twitter account Wednesday afternoon that appears to herald the retirement of Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning.

When contacted by reporters, the news was refuted by Manning’s agent, Tom Condon, and his father, Archie. Colts owner Jim Irsay weighed in later in the afternoon with a tweet that was not fit for a family website.

Manning did not play this season because of neck surgery. The Colts lost their first 13 games and finished 2-14 without him. They will have the No. 1 pick in this spring’s NFL draft. It’s also worth noting that it seems like Lowe is friends with Colts owner Jim Irsay, as they are seen together in photo No. 10.

Lowe cites no sources in his tweet. NFL Network anchor Rich Eisen had a telephone conversation with Lowe, who seemed shocked to have garnered this much attention. Lowe did tell Eisen that Irsay was not his source.
