NFL Proposing Incentives to Teams for Minority HC hires, etc.

This may get moved to DC soon, but here goes:

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ey-rule-tweaks

In an attempt to encourage teams to hire minority coaches, the NFL intends to present multiple resolutions to owners during the annual league meetings next week.

Per NFL.com's Jim Trotter, the resolutions that are expected to be voted on include removing an anti-tampering barrier that allows teams to block assistant coaches from interviewing for coordinator positions and an incentive program that will reward clubs for hiring minority candidates as head coaches or executive-level positions in the football operations department.

Under the incentive proposal, teams would receive a boost in their third-round draft pick if they hire a minority as head coach or primary football executive and keep him or her employed for multiple years.

Not even sure what to say about this . . . . . .

This is beyond silly. No team is going to hire a black HC or GM just to move up a few spots in the 3rd.

This. Now change it to a first rounder, and you might see some change.

13% of Americans are black, of that 13% how many are into football at all, what.....4/5%? Not easy finding blacks who would qualify to be a HC/GM. Kinda like finding a white running back.

True. But when it doesn't work they'll keep raising the stakes until it does.

Maybe it’s me....but this isn’t moving this towards the positive. You’re setting this whole thing back by offering up incentives.

I always thought the rooney rule was kinda weird, but this is bizzare. I guess the NFL is run by a bunch of old whites though, maybe they see it differently than i see my unbiased world.

In the day and age don't you think that an owner or general manager is going to hire the candidate that gives them the best chance of winning? Black-white-brown-green-orange or any other color that might be out there. If they have the skills, they should get the job. Otherwise you would be putting your team at risk.

I don't get it. Nobody is surprised when a black man is hired as a head coach, and it seems to happen regularly. Maybe I'm wrong, but off the top of my head there was a bunch fired. So, they are saying they want minority coaches replaced with minority coaches or what? Cuz now theirs like 2, Chargers and Steelers. Prior to the firings, there was 6 I think. Which is about 18 percent, so they are ahead of the US population. The league however has 68% black players. So, I guess the feeling is we should have 68% black coaches? Seriously, what are they driving at?

What is the penalty if you replace him like right after the draft?

i mean I would be in favor of the Chiefs celebrating honorary head coach Eric Bieniemy for the month of April every year if it gets a third rounder.
