First Round Mock 1.0

First stab at a full first round mock for this year... Here goes..... WEEEEEE

1. Cleveland Browns - Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M
Cleveland absolutely needs a franchise QB, but there isn't a sure-fire one in this draft and I don't see their brass passing on a stud edge disrupter to take one at #1. I think they wait on a QB and secure Garrett at 1.

2. San Francisco 49ers - Mitch Trubisky, QB, North Carolina
The 49ers are bringing in a new regime, and with that I think they take a stab at the draft's top QB prospect hoping to turn around their fortunes.

3. Chicago Bears - Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson
The Bears are moving on from Jay Cutler, and I expect they'll look for a more athletic QB this time around. The Bears need a game changer with the will to win, and Watson gives them that.

4. Jacksonville Jaguars - Jonathan Allen, DT, Alabama
This is an absolute toss-up pick here. Jacksonville could use a stud running back like Fournette to give Bortles some help, but it's also hard to pass on a much needed interior disrupter like Allen. Allen put up 22.5 sacks the past 2 seasons at 'Bama and is an absolute interior wrecking ball. I can't see the Jags passing on a D-Line talent like that with such a deep RB class.

5. Tennessee Titans (f/LAR) - Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio State
The Titans secondary was atrocious last season, so they could go anywhere at DB with this pick. I see them nabbing the drafts best CB in Lattimore and going safety later.

6. New York Jets - Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU
The Jets could go QB if they feel like Hackenberg isn't the answer, which he probably isn't, but I have them aiding whatever young QB they end up playing by adding a strong running game with the draft's top back in Fournette.

7. Los Angeles Chargers - Ryan Ramzyck, OT, Wisconsin
Some team is going to take a shot on this kid's athleticism and pass blocking skills, so he's likely going either here or at #8 to the Panthers. Phillip Rivers needs more reliable protection on the outside for this team to compete. If Ramzyck's medicals on his torn hip labrum check out, he's going top 10.

8. Carolina Panthers - Sidney Jones, CB, Washington
It's no secret that the Panthers need help at tackle, but outside of Ramzyck there isn't a realistic 1st round left tackle prospect. They might have to take a stud right tackle in round 2 and a project left tackle later, hoping Oher can give them one more go around. That said, letting Josh Norman go was a huge mistake leaving them with no cover corner on the roster other than rookie James Bradberry. They have to get a #1 CB to return that defense to top level once again and Jones is a guy you can pretty much leave on an island given his cover skills.

9. Cincinnati Bengals - Reuben Foster, ILB, Alabama
The Bengals absolutely need to add more speed on their front seven and that starts with upgrading either Karlos Dansby or Rey Maualuga.

10. Buffalo Bills - Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State
The Bills need a game changer in their secondary and Hooker is exactly that. While Adams may be a safer player that will be a great box defender with solid coverage skills similar to Eric Berry, Hooker has the attributes that could make him a true ball hawk at the position. The Bills have never been averse to gambling.

11. New Olreans Saints - Solomon Thomas, DE, Stanford
The Saints desperately need another edge rusher to pair with Cameron Jordan after finishing 27th in sacks in 2016. A steady edge rush would take some pressure off their weak secondary while they build that up. Thomas is a solid all-around end that will boost both the pass and run defense.

12. Cleveland Browns (f/PHI) - Jamal Adams, S, LSU
The Browns really need to improve at both safety spots in the draft. I look for them to take the best remaining of Adams, Hooker, or Peppers at 12. They simply need better help behind their CBs and to help shore up their run defense.

13. Arizona Cardinals - DaShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame
Arizona doesn't have a laundry list of huge needs, but they do need some help defensively. Most of those needs could be addressed later in the draft. The Cardinals have to think about the future with Carson Palmer turning 37. Kizer makes perfect sense for them, as he goes to a situation where he can grow and learn behind a good veteran.

14. Indianapolis Colts - Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee
The Colts basically have nobody at OLB that can rush the passer even if they do re-sign Erik Walden. They must get better on the edge if that defense hopes to improve. Barnett is a relentless player that improves the run and pass defense immediately.

15. Philadelphia Eagles (f/MIN) - Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State
The Eagles need a weapon in the run game to take pressure off their young QB. Cook is also an extremely versatile weapon in the passing game.

16. Baltimore Ravens - Mike Williams, WR, Clemson
The Ravens lack a sure-fire #1 receiver on offense as Perriman is more of a stretch-the-field #2 type. They have little after that with Mike Wallace being a bust. Joe Flacco would sure be happy to have a dependable target once again.

17. Washington Redskins - Zach Cunningham, ILB, Vanderbilt
The Redskins really need to shore up their defensive line, but there really doesn't appear to be a rock-solid 1st round 3-4 DE outside of Allen in this draft. I look for the 'Skins to address that position in the 2nd or 3rd round, where the talent pool is deep, and go for a rangy playmaker early. Cunningham is the rangy, all-everywhere, type of linebacker that the Redskins very much lack next to Mason Foster, especially versus the run.

18. Tennessee Titans - Jabril Peppers, SS, Michigan
The Titans have established a physical presence offensively and I look for them to do the same on defense. After taking a lock-down press corner in Lattimore, they go for a rangy box defender in Peppers to help complete their secondary overhaul.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan
With Mike Williams nearing the end and few weapons remaining around Jameis Winston, the Bucs will have to retool early on. Davis is a polished route runner with great hands and top-level burst after he gets the ball in his hands. Davis looks like a #1 receiver in the NFL and should provide some pop to that receivin corps.

20. Denver Broncos - O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama
The Broncos haven't adequately replaced Julius Thomas, so I can see them getting a top-notch dump off man for their young QBs. Virgil Green was a huge disappointment in 2016. Howard can stretch the seam and give Denver's passing game that extra dimension once again.

21. Detroit Lions - Haason Reddick, OLB, Temple
The Lions must get better at OLB and DT in this draft as well as have those guys be able to bring additional heat on the QB. I see Reddick as a perfect fit at SOLB for their attacking 4-3 defensive scheme. Reddick has the athleticism to drop into coverage and could even take passing down snaps at DE.

22. Miami Dolphins - Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan
The Dolphins have the potential for a host of needs defensively at LB and DL depending on what happens in free agency. I see the 'Phins targeting a young pass rusher given the age of Cameron Wake and Mario Williams.

23. New York Giants - David Njoku, TE, Miami
Sterling Shepherd had a solid rookie season, but there was little else in the passing game outside of the Odell Beckham universe. The Giants need to upgrade their horrendous TE position and add a threat in the middle. Njoku is young and raw, but he has elite level athleticism to burn the seams.

24. Oakland Raiders - Malik McDowell, DT, Michigan State
The Raiders need some help on the interior, and while McDowell isn't quite the perfect prospect, he shows elite potential. McDowell is going to need to add some weight and develop his hand usage, but he could help immediately as a pass rusher while he develops. A true boom or bust, athletic prospect in Raiders typical fashion.

25. Houston Texans - Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama
The Texans could use a QB to push Osweiler, but they might wait until day 2 for a guy they like to develop. Meanwhile, Newton coming back as a RT after double patellar tendon tears seems really unlikely. Robinson won't fit as a LT in the NFL, but he has RT pedigree and could go a long way in strengthening that O-Line once again.

26. Seattle Seahawks - Garett Bolles, OT, Utah
The Seahawks absolutely must get better at the tackle positions. Bolles isn't ready from a strength perspective, but he has elite movement skills with great size and shows plus technique. Strength won't be as big of an issue on the left side as it would on the right, so there's a solid chance he can be serviceable year one.

27. Kansas City Chiefs - Patrick Mahomes II, QB, Texas Tech
Providing Dontari Poe and Eric Berry are retained, the Chiefs don't have any major voids outside of ILB, which they could address on day 2 with the talent remaining at the position. With Alex Smith turning 33, it's time the Chiefs get serious about the future. Mahomes needs development but shows that gunslinger mentality and playmaking ability needed in today's NFL.

28. Dallas Cowboys - DeMarcus Walker, DE, Florida State
The Cowboys absolutely must get a pass rusher that can remain on the field if they ever want to sniff a championship. Walker might not be the fastest or the strongest guy, but he has a great burst off the line and a variety of moves, and he always seems to get to the QB. Some guys just get the job done on the field, while others are workout warriors. Walker gets it done on the field.

29. Green Bay Packers - T.J. Watt, OLB, Wisconsin
With Peppers set to retire and Nick Perry a free agent, its highly likely the Packers go for an edge rusher. Who better than a home-grown talent in T.J. Watt? Watt may have little experience, but he proved he could be an impact pass rusher in that time plus he plays well against the run and in space. Watt will certainly develop a pro physique with the help of his brothers, so there is little to worry about in that department.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers - Takkarist McKinley, OLB, UCLA
The Steelers need to think of the future behind the ageless wonder, James Harrison. McKinley sports the same squatty, larger build as Harrison and he's a disruptor. There may be no better player for him to learn from about how to maximize his body and play at a high level.

31. Atlanta Falcons - Charles Harris, DE, Missouri
The Falcons need to add a pass rusher and Harris makes a ton of sense. Harris has an insane get-off and can bend the corner to get pressure on the QB. When he's bought into the scheme and allowed to wreak havok, he brings pressure as well as anyone in this draft.

32. New England Patriots - Jarrad Davis, ILB, Florida
After letting Jamie Collins go via trade this season, it seems likely the Patriots could look to fill the ILB position more adequately during the draft and move Hightower back outside. Davis will likely remind Bill of another SEC linebacker he drafted 10 years ago in Jerod Mayo, with similar builds and athleticism.

I really hate that the Texans are two slots in front of us. If we fall in love with this Mahomes kid, we're going to have to trade up to get him. The Texans have been reaching for every QB with a pulse since Buttchin got there.

Thanks D. I'm a bit concerned about the Texans too, but I feel as though whomever takes Mahomes in Round 1 is reaching and that includes KC. He's far from a ready prospect. He's a solid year and half out type IMO. I think he's a prospect, much like Kizer, that you can't throw to the wolves immediately. Houston, IMO, has more needs than KC. I'm not sure they'll take the shot.

Sign me the eff up. Garrett and Adams with a whole mess of corners to pick from at 33 is a dream scenario for me as a Browns fan.

I went awful light on CB in round 1 this year, but honestly I think there are some guys being incredibly overvalued.

Tabor is an off-the-field head case at this point, and I think his value sinks significantly because of it.

Humphrey has major issues with transitional footwork, like 99.9% of Alabama DBs. I think the league has learned its lesson taking these guys too high.

I think King, White, and Tankersley are the most realistic guys that could sneak into round 1.

I really like Tankersley, though. Dude is like the prototypical size of what the league wants in its corners now. I think you're dead on with him - and I think he'll be a first rounder no doubt by the time the underwear olympics are over.

He also stated on NFL Network that he wanted to see what Tom Savage had. You're right, they are locked down at QB for another season.

top 16? maybe top 60. Might have to be a safety, doesn't have the transitional footwork to stick with NFL receivers and doesn't have good recovery speed. Might be a good pick for a cover 2 team at CB though. Certainly not a guy I'd trust on an island in man.

Crow, if I remember right, he wasn't even thrown at more than ten times this season. I remember the announcers talking about it. He has unbelievable closing speed. The scouts have loved this guy for a while. He's one of Daniel Jeremiah's favorite players in the draft. A lot of mocks have him going top five.

I really disagree on this one.

Well, now DJ has Lattimore as #3 overall on his top 50 so I guess he changed his mind. He has 14 DBs in his top 50.

Oddly enough he doesn't have Cunningham in the list at all.
