Best draft picks by Round - Round 7

Here's my take. If you don't agree with #1, I can't help you.

#1 - Bobby Bell, 1963. Another AFL ringer rises to the top. 12 years with the Chiefs, 9 pro bowls and 6 (mostly AFL) all-pro nods. Generally acknowledged to be one of the best linebackers and all-around athletes in NFL history. First Chief named to the Hall of Fame. If you need more information, he was a really good long snapper, too.

#2 - Kevin Ross, 1984. 11 seasons with the Chiefs, and two pro bowls. With Albert Lewis on the other side shutting things down, Ross performed similar work on the his side. Great run support corner and hard hitter.

#3 - Fred Arbanas, 1962. 9 years as a Chief, 6 AFL pro bowls and 3 AFL all-pros. Maybe I should rank him higher, but he's before my time and it was easier to rack up pro bowls in the AFL. I always hear that he was a great player, though.

#4 - Dave Szott, 1990. 11 seasons with the Chiefs. Never made a pro bowl, but always deserved it. Great all-around guard who combined with Will Shields and Tim Grunhard to build a wall in the middle of the line.

#5 - Eric Warfield, 1998. 8 seasons with the Chiefs. He had no pro bowls and he took some guff at times, but he was a serviceable corner for several years, and you can't dislike a guy who's willing to spend $6,100 on a dog collar for his chihuahua.

#6 - Danan Hughes, 1993. 6 seasons with the Chiefs. He was never even really a starter, but he was a special teams stud like no other. Who didn't enjoy watching him race against McNair and Bennie Thompson to nail some hapless returner? I'm tempted to rank him above Warfield, but it's hard since he was never a rull-time starter on offense.

#7 - Ryan Succop, 2009. 5 seasons with the Chiefs, zero pro bowls. He was here. He did fine for the most part. He left.

#8 - Jarrad Page, 2006. 4 seasons with the Chiefs in the dream backfield of Page, Plant, Bonham, and Jones. I remember some odd situation about his departure, and he went to New England and promptly disappeared.

#9 - Gloster Richardson, 1965. 4 seasons on the active roster, with 2 more on the "taxi squad". If you watch the brawl against the Raiders where Otis Taylor was fighting that big Raider goon, you'll see Gloster Richardson coming in like the 7th Cavalry Division.

#10 - Ken Kremer, 1979. 6 seasons as the most undersized nose tackle the NFL has ever seen. Good value for a 7th round pick, but it still wasn't pretty to watch. Man, those teams were bad.

Others to consider include Billy Jackson, Shaunard Harts (who I still think has potential), Jeff Smith, Junior Hemingway, Tracy Greene (thanks for Monday Night!), and of course Mike Catapano.
