For statistical purposes, the NCAA ranks 326 non-provisional Division I schools. Savannah State is 324th in free-throw percentage (.581), 325th in scoring margin (minus-24.0), scoring defense (81.4 points allowed) and field-goal percentage (.353), and dead last in assists (7.7).

In other words, there is nothing flukish about this . There are no compelling coulda-woulda-shoulda rationalizations for a handful of nailbiter losses. It's a legit 0-24.

I know we had a godawful first half of the year, but with games against Syracuse, Pitt, Maryland, and Texas, among others, there's no reason for our strength of schedule and RPI to be so bad... unless these guys are dragging the ratings down:

Pat's always been a really good writer; I envied his style, although it was somewhat derivative of Rick Reilly, his hero. He got a job right out of college with the C-J, which was impressive. They probably are dragging your RPI down... that's why some schools will just as soon play a D-II team as opposed to a horrible D-I team, it doesn't hurt your RPI.

We played two warmup games against a couple of Memphis DII schools (Christian Brothers and Lemoyne-Owen; the latter of which, incidentally, is the HBCU that Darius Washington, Sr. attended and played basketball for), but were matched up with Savannah St. and George Mason (not a terrible team) in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic's first stage before moving on to NYC. The two DII schools gave much more of a fight than SavState. Hell, CBU hung with us for most of the game.
