Captain Obvious???

http://www.gbnreport.com/

KC looking at defense… One of the on-going debates at this time of year is whether much should be read into which players teams from around the NFL are having in for their final in-house visits as Rodgers and Smith have been doing the past couple of days. Each team is allowed to bring in As many as 20 out-of-town players for final interviews and medical tests. If there are a hint about from the list of players Kansas City is hosting it’s that the Chiefs will likely be investing heavily on defense at this year’s draft.

In fact, of the 19 players the Chiefs are having in for visits, 15 are defensive players, including 9 defensive backs. Included on the list are safeties Thomas Davis, Brodney Pool and Josh Bullocks, the three top-rated free safeties in the 2005 draft class, along with CB Carlos Rogers, who could slip to the Chiefs who have the 15th pick overall in this year’s opening round.

The Chiefs have also invited Texas LB Derrick Johnson in for a visit, setting off some speculation that the Chiefs might be thinking about trying to move up in the draft. Because Johnson is considered to be one of, if not the, top defensive prospect in this year’s draft, he’s not expected to last much past the 10th pick overall which means the Chiefs would have to move up from the 15th slot to acquire his services. In fact, with Houston, with the 13th pick overall, and New Orleans picking 16th one spot after the Chiefs, also believed to be interested in Johnson, there could ultimately be a bit gamesmanship involving those teams to see if anyone of the three could work their way into a position to select Johnson.

A profound article. Who would have ever thought that a team with the worst defense for three years in a row would look to improve itself through the draft? I guess thats why the author gets the big bucks and shmos like us have to work for a living.
