Is anyone else conflicted about training camp?

Every year, it's the same thing. I'll read the training camp reports, and the official ones are always very positive: offense is humming, defensive backs look good, Rich Scanlon is a beast, XXX from Tinybumpkin Community College could be the next great thing, etc.

I read all the good stuff, and there's always potential bad stuff imbedded in it. Whenever I read that the defense did well on a goal-line stand, I wonder if the offense has "lost it". Whenever I hear about Kilian completing 11 straight passes, I think that the cornerbacks must still be weak. In short, any news from training camp is a potential double-edged sword, and it leaves me feeling conflicted and confused.

Anyone else have this problem?

Yeah, I guess that is why the preseason games are meaningful in a way. You get to see some actaul situations.

Yeah, but I don't care about Killian completing 11 straight; he is playing against the 3rd string D.

Yes. I know how you feel. Ive already stated in other threads my feelings. Basically, to me, i take all of these Training Camp reports with a HUUUUGE grain of salt. Ill wait until i see actual "Real" and "Meaningful" gametime action to make comments on the new D, Mitchell, Warfield, LJ, CrapHo, Bell, etc.....Ive been burned waaaay too many times in the past to get my hopes up.

What I am conflicted about is that people may be taking Kevin seriously. Does it trouble me or does it make me laugh?

I dont think Killian is our QB for the future. We will wither take one high 1st round in the draft or pick up a FA in the offseason.

When I read the report of Wilson breaking apart the defense over and over again, being a 2nd year player made me get the jitters because it made me think that the defense isnt good enough. If its so bad the Gun has to yell, "thats f'n bullshit", then the defense has a long ways to go.

Then again I hear people like Kawika Mitchell taking charge of the defense and it kinda scares me. we drafted him during the Robinson era and until I see that he is fully capable of doing the job that Gun wants him to do, I still feel very scared about Mitchell starting at MLB.

Im also worried about ST, and the fact that Beisel and Blaylock were awesome ST players and now we are counting on rookies to fill those roles. Our coverage teams were awful, and having more rookies on the squad doesnt help.

I heard Priest looks tough. I hope the Oline stays healthy, I hope Gonzo is alright, there are many worries heading into our first pre season game.

Priest and Gonzo have nothing to prove. They have proven themselves many times over the past 4+ years. IMHO the players who have the most to prove and MUST absolutly step up this year are Sims and Mitchell. If they dont up their game then this D wont ever become a true contender. To a lesser degree Hicks, Saivii, Woods (if he makes the cut), Warfield and Wesley need to show alot more consistancy and heart.

Im not conflicted at all about training camp. The Chiefs year after year have demonstrated that whatever they say has to be taken with a grain of salt, but I really dont ever expect them to just come out and say how horrible things are going, even if they were going badly.

In regard to the defense, you people do realise that the defense is practicing against the best offense in the NFL dont you? They're gonna get burned just like the rest of the NFL defenses that have faced the Chiefs over the past 3 years.

Its a fact of life, this offense is awesome, our defense is not. This offense has played against players the caliber of the guys we have signed, so its not like they are all of a sudden just going to shut the offense down. Most of the time, its the offense that stops themselves.

As for scrubs doing well, I dont put anymore stock in that than watching the NFL Europe guys. I seriously doubt that Killian completed 11 straight against the first string defense, and even if he did do that, he did it in the comfort of knowing that he wasnt in danger of taking a hit. I imagine I could complete some nice passes too if I knew I wasnt going to be getting the living hell knocked out of me.

It works out much better if you just wait until the pre-season games to see the guys for yourself in a game situation, and then decide if you think that they can play well or not. Even then, its all vanilla offense/defense and still doesnt mean a whole lot.

Worrying about training camp is just unneccessary wear on your nerves. Wait until the season starts, and then you can worry about whether or not the Chiefs can win the games that mean something when everyone is playing without a leash on.

I just got back from 4 days in camp and Killian has a nice arm and may be the QB of the future. But IMO he looks like a rook and will be on the practice squad. In addition, the defense does look really fast, except for Ambrose. But what would you expect?

If we are selecting high in the 1st round, this place isn't going to be much fun this fall/winter.

Our QB of the future will either be Garcia, Rattay, or Smith. After Green is gone, Carl will revert back to his former 49er fetish.
