iPod info, please.

I am building a new computer for a customer who wants to download music to an iPod, and plug the iPod into her car stereo, home stereo, and whatever else she possibly can.

I know nothing about iPods.

Do they work with PC platform, or MAC only?

Do they only work with legit pay-for-download sites, or can they work with kazaalite++, and the like?

What is the best iPod on the go package for plugging in to systems other than a pair of headphones?

they work with all the major audio files, mp3, etc... you can load songs from your own ripped cd's, illegal limewire/kazaa downloads, etc...

I am currently ripping Blazing Saddles DVD to my ipod video.

definitely go for the ipod video!!!!! I love mine, I currentls have about 9 days of audio and 3 days worth of video on my 30 gig with about 9 gigs left over.

You can connect your ipod to your home stereo aux through a normal phono-RCA adapter, ou you can buy a home stereo dock. Apple sells a video adapter cable for watching on the TV for about $30, or you can just get a normal phono-RCA video cable but you have to put the red right cable into the video and the yellow video cable into the right audio(Apple switched them, those sneaky bastards).

For the car, I have the Griffin Road Trip, a FM transmitter/charger(2100 of my favorite songs, the best radio station in the WORLD!!!!!!!)

I have been eyeing Griffin's Road Trip, it looks like the way to go.

This customer is just concerned with audio files. Does the iPod have the typical 1/8" stereo out, so a simple adapter to the aux input on the home stereo works without a pre-amp? If so, that will be sweet. She would then be able to plug in to anything with aux input RCA's.

This may be easier than I thought.

Computers are easy. iPods are, to me, well, foreign.

People can say what they want about Apple, but they do know how to make things easy. Since making the switch, I miss some of the "power" that I had with a PC (being able to boot up in DOS and work with the bare bones of the OS), but my G5 runs so flawlessly that I don't even have to think about it. It just does it's thing without me having to put any effort into it.

Get a Sik Din to get a true line out. It bypasses the internal amp in the iPod and sounds a lot better than going through the headphone jack. If she has an aux input on her car stereo, get a Sik Imp instead as it has the car charger too.

I've played the line out through a cassette adapter in the car and it sounds good too, though I just yanked out that head unit and put in a stereo with an auxillary input.

FM transmitters suck.

I think Apple has strict price controls on the things, $299 just about anywhere, though I saw that CompUSA is bundling some accessories at that price.

Go on Buy.com. Search for a coupon for a first-time customer on google and save more money. No tax, no shipping.

I disgree about Geffen. I had that transmitter and I hated it. The Kensington FM tramsitter is the way to go. I love it. It's the only one on IPOD Lounge to get an A mark.
